About the position

Responsible for leading and managing strategic cost-effective and efficient purchasing and receiving of construction materials, delivery of materials to job sites and warehouse , communication with project managers, and managing inventories to ensure materials are stocked, organized and ready for on-time utilization. This position manages the day-to-day activities and personnel for Company purchasing and warehouse operations, in alignment with all Company policies, procedures, key objectives, and regulations.

Day in the life

  • Provides strategic planning and day-to-day management for the Companys purchasing department. Oversees personnel, systems, and operations of the purchasing department daily business. Maintains confidentiality of material quotes and product/vendor pricing information.
  • Benchmarks with other business leaders to ensure consistent work standards, strategic goals and objectives, and policies and procedures are created and maintained for purchasing management. Stays informed of new electrical codes, technology, safety procedures, techniques, and practices. Implement process improvements.
  • Orders, tracks, identifies and coordinates parts and materials through a variety of vendors. Creates and submits purchase orders whenever necessary. Receives parts and materials and ensures they are received timely and in high quality condition. Coordinates delivery of materials to job sites and warehouse as appropriate. Oversees vendor-managed inventories and provides reporting as needed.
  • Establishes strong vendor relationships and collaborates with vendors and field and office personnel to find needed high-quality materials at reasonable prices, creates and implements continuous improvement solutions for materials, systems, and logistics, and ensures quality materials are ordered and available on the job site as needed. Maintains confidentiality of material quotes and product/vendor pricing information. Accurately and confidentially maintains Company records and other sensitive business and customer data.
  • Assists project managers and other project team members with questions, material ordering, and other topics related to purchasing the products, tools and materials needed for specific projects. Prioritizes purchasing workload to ensure project deadlines are met.
  • Provides issue resolution and quality problem solving to determine how to deal with parts and material backorders, material returns, purchase order problems, alternate product recommendations and other similar issues.
  • Monitors employee education and procedural requirements regularly. Provides training and ensures implementation and accountability of proper safety and ergonomics procedures, processes and initiatives for warehouse and purchasing teams.
  • Hires, trains, and develops team members. Provides regular communications , mentoring and teambuilding to staff and other co-workers as needed.
  • Provides regular and high-quality hiring, communications, mentoring, coaching, problem-solving and training to staff and other co-workers at all levels as needed.
  • Advises and coaches employees and provides performance feedback regularly.
  • Manages annual budget and financials related to Company purchasing. Stays informed of new and changing Company procedures, policies, materials, technologies, techniques, and practices. Establishes, trains, and maintains policies and processes.
  • Consistently makes decisions in an attentive and safe manner to ensure the safety and health of self and others.
  • Utilizes LEAN concepts or other continuous improvement methodologies to ensure the most efficient operations, processes, and activities.
  • Promotes and models the Company mission, vision and values through exercising sound and ethical business practices, championing all elements of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) and providing high quality services and programs as they relate to clients, subcontractors, co-workers, suppliers, and the public.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree or equivalent work experience in business administration, supply chain or a related field .6 -8 years of full-cycle recruitment experience, preferably in construction or related industry.
  • Minimum 5-7 years of electrical construction experience in operations leadership with a preferred concentration in large commercial construction projects. Minimum 3 years of experience managing people.
  • Experience using inventory software and web-based purchase order systems.
  • Experience and skills in establishing budgets and working with external vendors to negotiate purchases. Excellent business development, analytical and mathematical skills. Skills to read, interpret and understand contracts, plans, drawings and specifications, and financial documents.
  • Strong business acumen and experience collaborating with senior leaders in a high growth, process-oriented business setting. Superior research skills to discover available products and materials, compare quality and pricing, and make purchase decisions.
  • Working knowledge of standard construction compliance requirements, engineering and costing issues related to electrical contracting materials and tools. Knowledge of building construction, materials, systems, market conditions and trade practices. OSHA Certification.
  • Extensive experience with project management leadership and practices. Strong understanding of the project management lifecycle.
  • Exceptional listening, presentation, negotiation, conflict management and persuasion skills, and the ability to influence employees at all levels. Solid business development

Travel

  • Travel to project sites is required, which may include temporary relocation for the duration of the project if your home base is outside of a reasonable daily commute.
