Qualifications

Job Description

The primary responsibility of the Shift Commander is overseeing daily operations, managing staff, and ensuring productivity and quality standards during their assigned shift. This role requires strong leadership skills, attention to detail, and the ability to make quick decisions in a fast-paced environment. The Shift Commander will also be responsible for ensuring compliance with safety regulations, company policies, and operational procedures and will train, mentor, and evaluate team members' performance.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Supervise and support EMTs, Advanced, Paramedics, and other medical and non-medical staff during shifts.
  • Ensure compliance with company protocols, operational standards, and clinical guidelines.
  • Provide guidance, direction, and feedback to team members.
  • Address personnel issues, conflicts, scheduling conflicts or performance problems in real time.
  • Respond to major or complex incidents and assist in patient care, as needed, to provide leadership and support.
  • Make scene at crashes, property damage or employee injury incidents to manage the overall scene.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for and ensure proper communication between crews, dispatchers, and hospital staff.
  • Complete drop ins during downtime to evaluate the performance of EMS personnel on the scene and provide constructive feedback.
  • Oversee the clinical care provided by EMS crews by doing periodical drop ins to ensure adherence to medical protocols.
  • Review Samsara footage to document driving infractions and counsel employee’s as necessary.
  • Evaluate patient assessments and treatment plans and input into Angel Track.
  • Complete end of shift reports, documenting key activities, incidents, and any personnel issues or changes.
  • Provide timely and clear communication with upper management regarding incidents, operational concerns, and personnel performance.

Ancillary Responsibilities

  • Work closely with logistics to ensure supplies are ready at the start of each shift.
  • Handle staffing adjustments, ensuring adequate coverage and resource allocation during the shift.
  • Coordinate vehicle repairs or equipment restocking as needed when fleet or logistics is unavailable.
  • Minimize overtime while ensuring adequate staffing levels throughout the shift.
  • Other duties as assigned by management
