Position Purpose: The Volunteer Services Coordinator is responsible for the recruitment, screening, onboarding, training, scheduling, support, retention, and recognition of volunteers throughout the organization. This position serves as a liaison between volunteers, hospital departments, patients, families, and community organizations to ensure volunteers provide meaningful support while enhancing the patient and visitor experience.
Essential Functions (list in order of importance including measures)- Volunteer Recruitment and Onboarding by coordinating volunteer applications, background checks, health screenings, and onboarding requirements. Maintain volunteer files and documentation.
- Develop and maintain volunteer assignments and position descriptions.
- Coordinate volunteer schedules and assignments.
- Monitor volunteer performance, attendance, and compliance with organizational policies.
- Track volunteer hours and program metrics.
- Establish and support Volunteer Engagement and Retention through ongoing support, coaching, and communication to volunteers, and recognizing volunteer contributions through appreciation events and recognition programs.
- Partner with department leaders to identify volunteer needs and opportunities by evaluating volunteer services to ensure alignment with organizational goals, assist departments in integrating volunteers into daily operations, and support special events, community outreach activities, and patient experience initiatives.
- Prepare reports on volunteer participation, hours, and program outcomes.
- Assist with development of new volunteer programs and services.
- Evaluate program effectiveness and recommend improvements.
- Collaborate with the Patient Experience Department to support patient rounding initiatives, patients’ satisfaction efforts, service excellence programs, and community engagement activities.
- Establish and maintain relationships with schools, colleges, community organizations, and other external partners to support volunteer recruitment and program growth.
