Job Summary:
This position is responsible for assisting pharmacists in the dispensing of prescribed medications, drugs, and other pharmaceuticals to provide the highest quality pharmaceutical care to Oyáte Health Center (OHC) patients.
Essential Functions:
- Mixes pharmaceutical preparations and fills bottles with prescribed tablets and capsules, and compounds
medications as directed.
Assists Pharmacist in preparing and dispensing medication.
• Request and obtain prior authorizations for various pharmaceutical products.
• Counts stock and enters data in computer to maintain inventory records. Generates pharmaceutical orders and
validates submission, receive, and stores incoming supplies, adjudicates order when received and ensure payment.
• Coordinates reverse distributor program to obtain reimbursement where appropriate.
• Processes records of medication and equipment dispensed to patient, computes charges, and enters data.
• Prepares sterile compounds (IV’s) according to USP 797/800 standards.
• Enters data such as patient name, prescribed medication, and cost, to maintain pharmacy files, charge system,
and inventory.
• Compiles and maintains reports to monitor outdated medication.
• Assists the Lead Pharmacy Technician with the Pharmacy’s point of sale (POS) billing program, including the
maintenance and direct total billing operations for Pharmacy programs.
• Maintains current knowledge of and comply with federal, state, and local regulations affecting areas of
responsibility.
• Maintain effective, collaborative interdepartmental and external relations.
• Must comply with federal laws and regulations as required by the Health Insurance Portability and
Accountability Act (HIPAA).
• Performs/completes all other duties and projects as assigned.
• Serves on OHC Committees, Teams, and Workgroups as assigned.
Performs the core responsibilities of the position accurately, timely, and in accordance with established standards.
• Maintains regular and reliable attendance consistent with the position’s schedule and operational needs.
• Communicates effectively with internal and external stakeholders as required by the role.
• Adheres to all applicable policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
• Utilizes required systems, tools, and technology necessary to perform the job.
Physical Requirements
- Stand for long periods (4–8+ hours)
- Perform repetitive hand/finger movements
- Lift anywhere from 20–50 lbs depending on role
- Bend, stretch, and reach frequently
- Maintain fine motor control for small objects
Required Qualifications
- Education/Relevant Experience: Completion of a formal training program or an associate’s degree and one (1) year of relevant experience; or a high school diploma or GED and three (3) years of relevant experience.
Individuals must have applicable education or experience applying a body of standardized rules, procedures, or operations to perform the full range of standard clerical assignments and resolve recurring problems or to operate and adjust varied equipment for purposes such as performing numerous standardized tests or operations.
Three (3) years of pharmacy technician experience and National Pharmacy Technician Certification (PTCB) or, one (1) year of pharmacy technician experience and a Pharmacy Technician degree.
