1. Competitive base salary $108,000 - $148,000.

Job Overview

1. The Environmental Manager is responsible for leading environmental compliance, planning, permitting, monitoring, and continuous improvement across heavy highway construction operations, gravel pit activities, and asphalt plant operations. This role supports field teams, plant operations, project management, and leadership by ensuring work is performed in compliance with applicable environmental regulations, permit requirements, and company standards.

Primary Responsibilities

1. Manage and lead the environmental team.
2. Lead environmental compliance across all company operations.
3. Manage environmental permitting and reporting.
4. Support stormwater pollution prevention and erosion control compliance.
5. Oversee aggregate pit and asphalt plant environmental compliance.
6. Manage spill prevention, response, and waste handling programs.
7. Conduct field inspections, audits, and environmental monitoring.
8. Provide environmental guidance to operations and project teams.
9. Lead environmental training, education, and communication.
10. Coordinate with regulatory agencies, owners, consultants, and internal stakeholders.
11. Maintain environmental records, systems, and documentation.
12. Drive continuous improvement and risk reduction.

Supervisory Responsibility

1. Environmental and Erosion Control Team.

Work Environment

1. Work will be performed in a combination of office and field locations. Familiarity with hazardous work environments and navigating heavy equipment sites is a requisite.

Physical Demands

1. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to input information, handle, carry (with and without assistance), feel objects, tools (of varying size and weight), or controls. Frequently reach with hands and arms, climb stairs, balance, stoop, kneel, bend, twist, crouch, or crawl, talk and hear, and taste or smell. The employee must be able to lift (including above shoulder or head), move, and carry up to 50 pounds frequently. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. Frequent exposure to high noise levels.

Required Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

1. Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Geology, Natural Resources, or a related field; equivalent field experience may be considered.
2. Experience managing environmental compliance for heavy civil, highway, aggregate, mining, asphalt, industrial, or construction operations.
3. Working knowledge of environmental regulations and permit requirements related to stormwater, erosion control, wetlands, air quality, aggregate mining, reclamation, dewatering, waste management, spill prevention, and regulated materials.
4. Experience preparing, tracking, and maintaining permits, inspection reports, environmental records, agency correspondence, corrective action logs, and required regulatory submittals.
5. Ability to read and interpret construction plans, specifications, permit conditions, site maps, drainage plans, reclamation plans, and regulatory documents.
6. Strong field presence with the ability to work effectively with project and team managers, superintendents, foremen, plant managers, pit managers, mechanics, truck drivers, subcontractors, consultants, regulators, and project owners.
7. Demonstrated ability to identify environmental risks, provide practical solutions, communicate expectations clearly, and follow through on corrective actions.
8. Strong organizational, written communication, documentation, training, and problem-solving skills.
9. Valid driver’s license and ability to travel regularly to construction projects, gravel pits, asphalt plants, yards, and agency or owner meetings.

Preferred Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

1. Experience with SWPPP inspections, erosion control certification, aggregate mining permits, air permit compliance, asphalt plant environmental requirements, spill response planning, or environmental management systems
