Description:
AltaMed offers mentoring services for youth as a supplement to educational and occupational skills training available through our existing Workforce Development program. Technology skills training, career exploration, and leadership development are all benefits for the thousands who have formally gone through our Workforce Development program.
Workforce Development coordinates of all of AltaMed’s internships, including AmeriCorps and clinical placement. More broadly, though, it exists to promote the sustainable growth of AltaMed’s workforce, one day seeking to supply 10-20 percent of our employees, and aims to ensure that AltaMed is hiring from within the communities we serve with greater retention in mind.
Job Overview
As a member of the Communications department, you'll report to department managers on the communications team and work with all areas of the department, including Patient Communications, Internal Communications, Translations and Branding. With guidance and support, you'll oversee many administrative tasks that support the teams, including simple communications projects. This is an opportunity for a new graduate or young professional to learn from expert team members and gain experience in strategic communication, while supporting more than 20 lines of business enterprise wide.
Additional duties, include:
- Research, copyedit, proofread and produce communications for patient and employee audiences distributed through print and digital deliverables.
- Help prepare reports, assist with inventorying, archiving and developing presentations.
- Assist with scheduling meetings, preparing meeting agendas, taking meeting notes and supporting follow-up actions as needed.
- Support departmental administrative duties.
- Maintain strict confidentiality.
- Coordinate with other departments for special meetings and projects, as needed.
- Build and maintain relationships with team members across the organization.
- Perform all other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements
- Excellent writing ability in both long and short form styles.
- Knowledge of AP style is desired.
- Experience with research to develop content.
- Must be organized, detail-orientated, and demonstrate problem-solving skills.
- Highly professional demeanor and strong interpersonal skills.
- Self-motivated and able to work independently.
- Must be able to effectively manage multiple tasks and priorities simultaneously.
- Ability to work in a highly matrixed organization
- Proficient with MS Office suite and Outlook.
- Experience with one or more of the following is a plus: copyediting, proofreading, storytelling, e-newsletter development, graphic design or marketing.
- Current senior in final semester pursuing a Bachelor’s degree or recent grad (1-2 years out) in Communications, Marketing, Journalism, English or related field.
- Previous internship or health care experience a plus.
- Bilingual in English/Spanish or English/Chinese a plus.
- May be required to provide writing samples and/or portfolio.
