The compensation offered to the candidate selected for the position will depend on several factors, including the candidate's educational background, skills and professional experience.
The Patient Access Representative plays a vital role in creating a positive first impression for our patients by delivering compassionate, patient- centered service. This position is responsible for accurately registering patients, verifying insurance, obtaining required documentation, collecting applicable payments and ensuring a seamless registration experience. The representative serves as the first point of contact for patients and families, providing exceptional customer service during stressful and urgent situations.
As a Patient Access Representative, a typical day might include:
- Admissions Registration
- Interviews patients, relatives or other responsible persons in order to gather pertinent demographic and financial information for processing
- Obtain required forms, signatures and copies of insurance cards and personal identification for guarantee of payment/assignment of benefits
- Issues copies of State of New Jersey Charity Care guidelines to all patients
- Obtains insurance information and initiates verification process via third party clearinghouse
- Photocopies insurance card, proof of address and personal identification in compliance with hospital Red Flag Policy
- Completes Medicare Questionnaire on all patients that are eligible
- Obtains required legal signatures or witnesses verbal consent according to Departmental policy for all admissions in a thorough and consistent manner
- Follows process to obtain this verbal or written consent
- Demonstrates the ability to understand and explain federal and state regulations including but not limited to Medicare Secondary Payer regulations for Medicare eligible patients, the New Jersey Charity Care Program and Advance Directives
- Complies with all departmental procedures as they relate to Advance Directive, latex allergy screening, and the Pneumonia Vaccination Program notification
- Accurately logs and files all patient admission specific paperwork, including orders, consults, history, physicals, etc
- Distributes and or delivers all completed paperwork and patient ID Cards in accordance with departmental policies, properly searches and assigns patient Medical Record numbers and Patcom numbers
- Follows all department policies as they relate to complete and accurate patient registrations,
- Welcomes new employees and cooperates in all new employee training assignments,
- Acts in leadership role in addressing questions posed by co-workers,
- Understands all essential registration functions to respond to questions and issues related to registration,
- Insurance and Medicare Reimbursement Competence
- Demonstrates an understanding of the different Financial Classes and specific insurance requirements for each,
- Follows the Patient Accounts criteria for financial screening of all elective admissions,
- Knowledgeable of Patient Type/class criteria
- Ensures the proper distribution of patient information pamphlets, as well as Medicare notice and filing of Medicare Questionnaire,
- Follows departmental procedure for identifying non-medical staff physicians on Outpatient registrations,
- Will record NPI and license numbers as needed
