This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Systems Administrator based in South Africa.
This role is responsible for maintaining and evolving critical IT infrastructure across servers, networks, storage, cloud services, and virtualized environments.
You will ensure systems remain secure, highly available, resilient, and optimized for performance across both on-premises and cloud environments.
The position combines advanced technical troubleshooting with infrastructure management, automation, security, and disaster recovery.
You will play a key role in supporting Windows and Linux environments as well as enterprise Citrix platforms.
The role also involves collaborating with IT teams, vendors, and business stakeholders to deliver reliable technology services and infrastructure improvements.
You will contribute to major technology initiatives including migrations, upgrades, rollouts, and infrastructure modernization.

- Manage and maintain enterprise IT infrastructure, including servers, networks, storage systems, and related technology platforms.
- Administer Windows and Linux servers, ensuring strong performance, security, availability, and reliability.
- Implement and manage virtualization environments such as VMware and Hyper-V.
- Develop, maintain, and test backup and disaster recovery strategies to protect data and ensure business continuity.
- Monitor system performance, network connectivity, and infrastructure health, responding quickly to alerts and resolving technical issues.
- Implement and maintain security controls including firewalls, antivirus solutions, intrusion detection and prevention systems, and other infrastructure security measures.
- Conduct security audits and vulnerability assessments and coordinate remediation of identified risks.
- Manage user accounts, permissions, authentication, and access controls through Active Directory and other directory services.
- Install, configure, patch, upgrade, and maintain operating systems and software applications.
- Maintain accurate technical documentation covering system configurations, procedures, changes, and operational processes.
- Develop and analyze reports covering system performance, security incidents, availability, and other relevant infrastructure metrics.
- Create and maintain automation scripts to streamline routine administrative activities and improve operational efficiency.
- Ensure IT infrastructure aligns with applicable industry standards, policies, and regulatory requirements.
- Provide advanced technical support and troubleshoot complex hardware, software, networking, and infrastructure issues.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior IT professionals, helping strengthen team capabilities.
- Collaborate with internal IT teams and business departments to ensure effective service delivery and issue resolution.
- Participate in infrastructure projects involving hardware and software deployments, system migrations, upgrades, and technology rollouts.
- Identify opportunities to improve infrastructure processes, service quality, operational efficiency, and user experience.
- Manage IT hardware inventory, including procurement, deployment, lifecycle management, and asset tracking.
- Coordinate with technology vendors and service providers on technical issues, escalations, maintenance, and service improvements.
- Ensure effective incident response and problem management practices are established and consistently followed.
- Identify infrastructure risks associated with system changes and implement appropriate mitigation strategies.
- Manage and monitor network and server monitoring platforms, investigating alerts and taking corrective action.
- Oversee cloud services and their integration with on-premises infrastructure.
- Administer and maintain Citrix environments, including XenApp, XenDesktop, and NetScaler, ensuring availability and performance.
- Troubleshoot Citrix infrastructure issues involving application delivery, connectivity, authentication, and user access.
- Optimize Citrix environments for scalability, performance, reliability, and overall user experience.
- Stay current with emerging infrastructure technologies, systems administration practices, security developments, and industry standards.
- Strong professional experience in systems administration and enterprise IT infrastructure management.
- Proven experience administering both Windows and Linux server environments.
- Hands-on experience with virtualization technologies such as VMware or Hyper-V.
- Strong understanding of networking, server monitoring, storage, system availability, and infrastructure troubleshooting.
- Experience developing and maintaining backup, disaster recovery, and business continuity solutions.
- Knowledge of infrastructure security practices, including firewalls, antivirus, intrusion detection/prevention, vulnerability management, and security audits.
- Experience with Active Directory, user administration, permissions, authentication, and access control.
- Experience managing software and operating system installations, configurations, upgrades, and patching.
- Ability to develop automation scripts for recurring systems administration and maintenance tasks.
- Strong experience with Citrix XenApp, XenDesktop, and NetScaler, including administration, troubleshooting, optimization, and application delivery.
- Experience working with cloud services and integrating cloud infrastructure with on-premises environments.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to diagnose complex infrastructure issues efficiently.
- Experience participating in technology projects such as migrations, upgrades, deployments, and infrastructure modernization initiatives.
- Strong documentation and reporting skills, with attention to technical accuracy and operational detail.
- Ability to assess infrastructure risks and implement appropriate controls and mitigation strategies.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills for working with technical teams, business stakeholders, vendors, and service providers.
- Ability to mentor junior team members and provide technical leadership when required.
- Self-motivated, organized, and comfortable managing multiple priorities in a remote working environment.
