The Aultman Registered Nurse (RN) is a professional nurse that provides direct, primary nursing care to patients/residents. The RN delegates and coordinates patient care, based upon a documented assessment of the patient’s/resident’s needs. The RN supervises the care provided by individuals such as licensed practical nurses, patient care technicians/state tested nursing assistants/nurse aides, medical assistants, and etc., if applicable.

Aultman Massillon Emergency Department is a free-standing ED and is comprised of 12 private exam rooms and 1 resuscitation room for patient care, and a decontamination room that contains a separate drainage tank. The ED has a common lobby area for patients and visitors, three additional sub-waiting areas located throughout the main treatment area, an EMS report room, laboratory test room, offices, and storage space. Common shared areas include the employee lounge and diagnostic services for radiologic tests. Services are provided to patients of all ages who present to the ED 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

· One designated resuscitation room.

· Three rooms, with a sub-waiting room, are utilized as basic care rooms for patients who require medical evaluation/treatment for minor medical illnesses or minor injuries. The patient(s) in the sub-waiting room is/are vertical and waiting for reevaluation after laboratory or diagnostic test results, or additional evaluation.

· Twelve rooms available and eleven rooms are hardwired for cardiac, non-invasive blood pressure, and pulse oximetry monitoring.

· One of the eight treatment room can accommodate the bariatric patient.

· All treatment rooms and designated restrooms are handicap accessible.

· One treatment room is a negative pressure room.

There are no inpatient or overnight beds.

• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing; BSN preferred.

• Current, active licensure as a Registered Nurse through the Ohio Board of Nursing.

• Obtain and maintain current American Heart Association (AHA) training in Basic Life Support (BLS) utilizing Resuscitation Quality Improvement (RQI) is required.

• Certification preferred for RNs meeting applicable certification eligibility requirements.

• Membership in professional nursing organization preferred.

• Obtain and maintain current American Heart Association (AHA) training in Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) utilizing Resuscitation Quality Improvement (RQI) is required.

• Obtain and maintain current National Institute’s of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS). Certification required within 90 days of hire.

• Proficient computer skills to complete tasks as required.

• Must be organized, able to effectively prioritize tasks and exhibit appropriate time management skills.

• Must be detail oriented while focusing on safe practices and quality care.

• Effective appropriate and professional interactions with colleagues/physicians, patients and visitors.

• Provides safe, timely, evidence-based nursing care to patients presenting to the emergency department across the full spectrum of acuity and age groups.

• Perform comprehensive and focused nursing assessments, including obtaining and documenting vital signs, pain assessments, medical history, allergies, medications, and presenting symptoms.

• Prioritize patient care based on acuity and clinical presentations and initiates appropriate nursing interventions within the scope of practice and organizational policy.

• Rapidly recognizes and responds to life threatening conditions and participates in emergency response protocols, including cardiac arrest, stroke, STEMI, sepsis, trauma, and other medical emergencies.

• Initiates and maintains IV access; Administers medications, IV fluids, and other treatments as ordered and in accordance with established policies and procedures.

• Monitors patients receiving medications, treatments, procedures, and diagnostic testing and evaluates and documents their response to care.

• RN applies the nursing process of assessment, planning interventions, accurately implements and/or delegates patient care, evaluates that care, and accurately communicates patient information in a timely manner.

• RN is a patient/resident advocate in conjunction with the other members of the healthcare team and fosters patient safety, comfort and satisfaction.

• Attains knowledge and competency that reflects current nursing practice.

• Demonstrates quality and effectiveness of nursing practice.

• Adhere to professional standards and guidelines, including ethical actions, relevant statutes, rules and regulations, during nursing practice.

• Collaborates with patient, family, and others in the conduct of nursing practice.

• Exhibits High Reliability Organization (HRO) tools and tones.

• Provides leadership in the professional practice setting and contributes to the professional development of peers, colleagues and students.

• Integrates research findings into practice.

• Responsible for timely review of emails, department communications and applicable learning assignments and completion as applicable.

• Provides appropriate patient and family education regarding medications, treatments, procedures, disease process, follow-up care, and discharge instructions.

• Collaborates effectively with physicians, advanced practice providers, EMS, laboratory, radiology, and other members of the healthcare team.

• Maintains accurate and timely documentation of assessments, interventions, reassessments, medications, patient responses, education, communication, and disposition.

• Maintains competency in required emergency nursing skills and participates in ongoing education, training, and competency validation.

• Maintains readiness of emergency equipment, supplies, and patient care areas and reports deficiencies or safety concerns appropriately.

• Demonstrates effective prioritization and time management skills in a fast-paced high-acuity environment.

• Demonstrates professional, respectful, and effective communication with patients, families, visitors, and colleagues.

• Participates in quality improvement, patient safety, regulatory, and department initiatives.

• Performs other duties as assigned by the emergency department leadership.

• Meal and break times are coordinated with other staff members to maintain adequate coverage.

• Shifts are scheduled or changed due to the staffing needs of the unit/department based upon volume and acuity.

• Work weekends and holidays as assigned or as applicable based on department needs.

• Cross training depending upon department needs.

• Works in a fast-paced emergency department environment with frequent interruptions, changing priorities, and unpredictable patient volume and acuity.

• May care for multiple patients simultaneously, including patients requiring continuous monitoring, rapid intervention, or emergency stabilization.

• Frequently exposed to stressful, emotionally charged and potentially unpredictable situations involving patients, families, visitors, and colleagues..

• May encounter patients who are confused, agitated, Nevada, intoxicated, emotionally distressed, or otherwise unable to cooperate with care.

• May be required to respond immediately to emergency situations, including cardiac arrest, trauma, stroke, STEMI, respiratory emergencies, behavioral emergencies, and other life-threatening conditions.

• Must maintain professional composure and demonstrate effective decision making during high stress and rapidly changing clinical situations.

Category I - Includes tasks that involve exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues. All procedures or other job-related tasks that involve an inherent potential for spills or splashes of, or mucous membrane or skin contact with blood, body fluids or tissues are Category I tasks.
