Position Description

Position Summary

The primary function of the Project Manager is the planning and management of all aspects of construction projects with focus on safety, quality, and productivity. The Project Manager will be the primary representative and point of contact for clients and engineers. The Project Manager will also provide critical project information regarding project scope, budget, and schedule to the field operations team and manage these objectives to completion.

The Project Manager will report directly to the Senior Project Manager or the Project Executive.

Will consider Assistant Project Manager.

Duties and Responsibilities

Safety

  1. Be a strong proponent, supporter, and enforcer of the company safety program, policies, and procedures.
  2. Perform and report regular project safety observations, near misses, and job site safety audits to insure a safe work environment.
  3. Assist with safety planning and job hazard analyses for prevention of incidents and accidents.

Quality

  1. Ensure project work is done in accordance with the contract documents (Contract, Plans & Specs) and industry standards.
  2. Ensure that work on projects is structurally sound and excels in visual appearance.
  3. Perform and report regular project quality observations.
  4. Prepare, manage, and minimize punch lists and insure efficient close out of projects.

Budget Management

  1. Manage profitability of projects (includes loss mitigation).
  2. Maintain updated and accurate job cost reports including accurate cost to completion projections for each work activity.
  3. Thorough knowledge of project contracts, plans, specifications, and budgets.
  4. Develop and maintain full knowledge of the project scope of work.
  5. Communicate budget and schedule status (job cost reports and updated project schedules) to Superintendents, Foremen, and Managers.
  6. Hold Superintendents and Foremen accountable for project budget and schedule.
  7. Closely monitor daily production and labor/equipment costs from daily timecards.
  8. Recognize scope changes and get written approval and documentation.
  9. Estimate change orders and liaison with the Estimating Dept. as needed.

Project Planning and Controls

  1. Plan project work with Superintendents, Foreman, and Field Managers.
  2. Conduct internal hand off and In-House Pre-Construction meetings.
  3. Conduct Pre-Construction meetings with clients and engineers.
  4. Conduct internal job cost and schedule meetings.
  5. Conduct Post-Construction Lessons Learned meetings.

Schedule Management

  1. Develop critical path bar chart schedules and update regularly.
  2. Assist Superintendents with 2 Week Look Ahead Schedules.
  3. Manage and drive schedule and monthly billings.
  4. Collaborate with Superintendents to ensure that there is adequate manpower and equipment to meet the project schedule within budget.
  5. Assist Superintendents with management of subcontractors and material vendors.

Customer Service

  1. Establish and maintain good relationships with customers.
  2. Inspire confidence with customers by responding quickly and effectively.
  3. Present a professional appearance and demeanor.

Communication

  1. Communicate well with Division Manager, Project Executive, Senior Project Manager, Project Manager, Field Managers, Equipment Manager, Shop Manager, Safety Manager, Superintendents, Foreman, and field personnel.
  2. Communicate with Estimating Department to provide input on bid estimates, job costs, and change orders.
  3. Communicate well with other departments including Layout/GPS, Accounting, Human Resources, IT/OpEx, etc.
  4. Communicate well with other company divisions.
  5. Communicate well with owners, engineers, inspectors, and other external customers.
  6. Deal effectively with conflict.

Cash Flow Management

  1. Ensure that project invoicing is timely and accurate.
  2. Be proactive with collections of accounts receivable.
  3. Review accounts payable invoices thoroughly and approve in a timely manner.

Position Requirements

Qualifications and Attributes

  2. Bachelor’s degree required – preferably in civil engineering or construction management.
  3. Minimum 5 years of construction experience as a Project Manager and/or Assistant Project Manager.
