The Department of Pediatrics at Alameda Health System is seeking candidates for a services-as-needed newborn hospitalist to provide clinical care at Highland Hospital.

The system has more than 4,500 employees and 1,100 physicians and comprises three general acute hospitals, the Acute Rehabilitation Center at San Leandro Hospital, two skilled nursing facilities, an inpatient psychiatric facility, and four community wellness centers. The Family Birthing Center is a 24-hour, Baby Friendly birth center located in Oakland, CA with 1500 births annually.

Clinical responsibilities include coverage of the Level II Special Care Nursery and Level I Newborn Nursery, attendance at deliveries, and consultation services in the Emergency Department. Hospitalist shifts can be 12 or 24 hours. Newborn Nursery rounding is typically 4 hours in the morning. As a services-as-needed (SAN) physician, there is no minimum hours requirement for this position.

The successful candidate will work closely with a well-established group of pediatric/newborn hospitalists and will have 24/7 access to a neonatologist via phone consultation. Our group has a long-standing relationship with specialists and transport services provided by UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital Oakland.

This clinical position will provide excellent opportunities to be involved in quality improvement initiatives as well as participation in academic activities including resident and medical student education, Grand Rounds and conferences. Highland Hospital is a Baby-Friendly designated hospital and we have strong lactation support.

Qualifications include Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (D.O.) degree, completion of approved post-graduate residency training in Pediatrics from an accredited hospital or medical center, American Board of Pediatrics eligible or maintaining certification, possession of valid California Medical License, and NRP certification prior to start of work.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (D.O.) is required.

Minimum Experience: Completion of an approved residency in an appropriate specialty.

Required: Board Eligible or Board Certified in Pediatric Hospitalist

Required Licenses/Certifications: Possession of a valid license to practice medicine in the State of California.

Pay Range: $123.73 - $134.24 / Hour

The pay range for this position reflects the base pay scale for the role at Alameda Health System. Final compensation will be determined based on several factors, including but not limited to a candidate’s experience, education, skills, licensure and certifications, departmental equity, applicable collective bargaining agreements, and the operational needs of the organization.
