About the Role:

The Donor Data and Insights Manager is a strategic leader responsible for overseeing a multidisciplinary team focused on collecting, managing and activating donor and prospect data to create more personalized and impactful donor experiences. This role provides direction, structure and thought leadership across a variety of core service areas, including surveys, audience selection, data hygiene and enrichment, lead scoring and marketing automation, including print fulfillment and email integration.

This role provides leadership for current donor insight programs while guiding the growth and maturity of advanced offerings such as predictive scoring, donor modeling, enrichment strategy and next-best-action activation. Through close collaboration with internal stakeholders, this position ensures donor data solutions are strategically sound, aligned with client goals and executed with consistency, compliance and quality across all engagements.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Leadership and Strategy
    • Help lead the strategic direction and evolution of Stelter’s donor data and insights offerings, including surveys, audience selection, scoring, enrichment, fulfillment and donor activation
    • Provide insight on the evolving role donor data plays in philanthropy and planned giving marketing
    • Partner with leadership to ensure donor insight services align with agency growth goals and client needs
    • Guide cross-client benchmarking initiatives and identify emerging trends across Stelter's client portfolio
    • Provide guidance on project planning, resource needs and ROI considerations related to donor insight solutions
  • Survey, Fulfillment and Voice of Donor
    • Lead Stelter’s donor survey program offering, including strategy, resourcing and ongoing enhancements
    • Provide strategic oversight to survey execution, ensuring best practices in donor experience, response quality and actionable reporting
    • Guide development of new survey methodologies, segmentation strategies and insight activation opportunities
    • Support team members through coaching, prioritization and quality oversight
    • Partner with client services, strategy, digital marketing and analytics team members to ensure survey insights inform campaigns and donor journeys
    • Provide leadership for fulfillment and automated campaign operations tied to donor requests. Align fulfillment strategy with broader marketing automation and client goals.
  • Audience Strategy, Lead Scoring and Predictive Modeling
    • Lead the growth and evolution of Stelter’s audience strategy, lead scoring and predictive analytics offerings primarily focused on asset-based giving such as legacy giving and mid-major giving
    • Guide the development of donor lifecycle strategies through the expansion of internal scoring models and future predictive modeling opportunities
    • Provide strategic guidance on donor segmentation, quantity optimization and outreach prioritization based on donor behavior across online and offline marketing channels
    • Identify trends in donor behavior across direct mail, email, digital and survey engagement to improve future campaign strategy
    • Evaluate opportunities for advanced models such as propensity scoring, lapse-risk scoring, donor lifetime value modeling and next-best-action recommendations
    • Ensure scoring outputs are practical, understandable and actionable for clients and internal teams
  • Data Hygiene and Enrichment
    • Lead Stelter’s donor data append, hygiene and fulfillment offerings
    • Maintain and expand standards for list quality, enrichment strategy and responsible use of third-party data
    • Ensure donor data reflects the highest levels of accuracy, consistency and usability
    • Evaluate vendor partners and external data sources for quality, value and compliance
    • Ensure services are efficient, scalable and aligned with donor experience expectations
  • Security and Compliance
    • Lead compliance efforts across all donor data services, including alignment with CCPA and emerging privacy legislation
    • Maintain awareness of evolving regulations related to data privacy, consent and donor communications within the nonprofit sector
    • Partner with internal stakeholders to ensure proper handling of donor data, consent management and suppression practices
    • Establish and reinforce best practices for compliant data usage, targeting, enrichment and activation
  • Collaboration and Continuous Improvement
    • Collaborate with digital marketing, web, analytics and client strategy teams to align donor insight capabilities with business needs
    • Provide consultation during project scoping and client discussions involving custom data strategies or advanced activation opportunities
    • Identify opportunities to streamline processes and improve cross-team efficiency
    • Promote a culture of innovation, recommending enhancements to improve donor insight services through structured documentation and product roadmaps
    • Stay on top of the latest fundraising, marketing and data trends and recommend best practices related to donor engagement and experience
    • Support internal training and enablement efforts related to donor data strategy and new offerings
  • Team Leadership and Resource Management
    • Manage day-to-day operations for Donor Insights and Experience team, ensuring work is prioritized and delivered to established standards
    • Provide coaching, mentorship and growth opportunities for team members
    • Assess team capacity, support resource planning and coordinate workload distribution
    • Foster a collaborative environment where team members feel empowered to innovate and solve problems
    • Support hiring, onboarding and training for roles within Digital and Data Services

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS

  • Strong experience in donor data strategy, audience segmentation, enrichment and activation across multi-channel marketing programs, such as direct mail, email, digital, text, connected TV, etc.
  • Experience with lead scoring frameworks, predictive modeling concepts or donor prioritization strategies
  • Strong understanding of nonprofit fundraising strategy, donor lifecycle management and constituent engagement
  • Experience interpreting giving history, gift data and donor behavior to develop actionable fundraising strategies
  • Familiarity with nonprofit CRM platforms such as Blackbaud CRM, Raiser's Edge NXT, Salesforce or similar donor management systems
  • Experience working with donor databases, marketing automation platforms and data visualization tools
  • Ability to translate analytical findings into recommendations that improve fundraising performance and donor experience
  • Strong presentation and storytelling skills with a focus on data-driven decision making
  • Familiarity with CRM, marketing automation and reporting platforms preferred
  • Understanding of privacy regulations and compliant data practices required

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, analytics, information technology or equivalent work experience
  • 8+ years of experience in donor data strategy and marketing operations
  • 2+ years of team leadership or people management

  • Stelter is headquartered in West Des Moines, Iowa. Local and remote applicants will be considered. Applicants must reside in one of the following states: Arizona, Colorado, Florida, Illinois, Iowa, Maryland, Minnesota, Missouri, North Carolina, Oregon, South Carolina, Texas, Virginia or Wisconsin.
