Position Summary

The Pump Shop Manager is responsible for leading, mentoring, and training Pump Shop Technicians to coordinate daily pump shop activities supporting ship repair, maintenance, and overhaul projects. This role is responsible for directing skilled craft personnel involved in the evaluation, restoration, and performance verification of mechanical and rotating equipment used aboard naval and commercial vessels. This position ensures all work is completed safely, efficiently, on schedule, and in compliance with quality expectations and regulatory requirements, supporting shipyard execution goals, and the direct management of 2 employees.

Domestic and international travel may be required.

Essential Functions

  • Manage daily pump shop operations and oversight of Pump Shop Technicians by assigning work to support the timely repair, overhaul, and testing of marine pumps and rotating equipment
  • Monitor the repair, overhaul, assembly, testing, and inspection of marine pumps and rotating equipment, ensuring compliance with customer, OEM specifications, shipyard quality standards, and NAVSEA standard items
  • Conduct regular inspections of pumps and related equipment, troubleshoot equipment failures, determine repair solutions, and coordinate corrective and preventive maintenance activities, maintaining accurate maintenance records of work completed
  • Lead daily safety meetings, enforce safety compliance with OSHA, DOT, and shipyard safety requirements, and coordinate with cross-functional teams to support project schedules, milestones, and work execution
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Must have HAZWOPER and RCRA safety requirements experience, understanding the difference in the handling of hazardous and non-hazardous materials
  • Ability to safely execute pumping operations, operate a pump truck for transport, and dispose of waste at the approved wastewater treatment plant in accordance with permit requirements and regulations
  • Must be able to interpret work specifications, blueprints, and technical manuals to ensure accurate repairs
  • Must have strong Microsoft Office Suite computer skills
  • Must have strong organizational, time management, written and verbal communication skills
  • Must have ability to maintain confidentiality and a professional demeanor
  • Must adhere to ISO and OSHA policies established by FMG and have high values for safety awareness
  • Perform supervisory responsibilities in accordance with Company policies, procedures, and applicable laws, including interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; evaluating performance; employee recognition and discipline; resolving employee concerns; and developing employees with the skills, competencies, and values needed to achieve Company goals.

Education and Experience

  • Journeyman, Technical, or Associate's degree, or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
  • 2 years of pump operations experience in a marine environment required
  • 24-hour OSHA emergency response or HAZWOPER 40 – the 40-hour Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response certification required

Physical Demands and Work Environment
While performing job duties, the employee is frequently required to sit, stand or walk; use hands and arms to grasp, handle, manipulate, or feel objects and controls; stoop, bend, kneel, and crouch; and speak or hear. The employee may lift and/or move up to 35lbs regularly and up to 50lbs occasionally. Work is performed both inside and outside in varying environmental conditions, including heat, cold, wet, humid, dry, and arid climates. The employee may also be required to work in confined spaces and at varying heights. PPE is required to minimize noise exposure, moving machinery, weather elements, and other potential hazards, including the risk of injury.
