The Role
GrizzlyTrek is hiring skilled labourers for exchanger cleaning on a shutdown at Conklin, Alberta. The rate is $28.00 an hour, camp is provided, and travel to site is provided from Bonnyville, Alberta. The shutdown starts Thursday, September 25, 2026. This is very heavy work. Read the physical demands and the pre-employment requirements before you apply.
Exchanger cleaning on a shutdown. You work on the cleaning pad as part of a crew, handling heat exchanger bundles and the equipment used to clean them, moving hose and gear through the shift, and keeping the scope moving so exchangers go back to the unit on schedule. It is wet, heavy, repetitive work in full PPE, and the shutdown schedule does not move. Crews work under a supervisor with site safety controls in place at all times. If you have done industrial cleaning, vac work or turnaround labour before, you already know what this job asks for.
What You'll Do
  • Clean heat exchanger bundles and components as part of an exchanger cleaning crew
  • Move, position and handle bundles, hose, fittings and cleaning equipment on the pad
  • Set up, drag and tear down hose and equipment repeatedly through the shift
  • Keep the cleaning pad organized, contained and clear of hazards
  • Work in full PPE, including protection against water spray and debris
  • Take part in pre-job hazard assessments, toolbox talks and safety meetings
  • Follow all client, site and GrizzlyTrek safety procedures without exception
What You Bring
  • Physically capable of very heavy, sustained manual labour for a full shift, every shift
  • Able to lift and carry repeatedly, and work bent, kneeling and in awkward positions
  • Able to work in full PPE and wet conditions, outdoors, in all weather
  • Willing to live in camp at Conklin for the length of the shutdown
  • Able to travel from Bonnyville, Alberta on the provided transportation
  • Reliable, on time, and able to take direction on a fast moving shutdown
Pre-Employment Requirements
All of the following apply to this project and must be completed before you travel to site.
  • Successful completion of Alcohol and Drug Screening
  • Successful completion of comprehensive Fitness-to-Work Assessment. This assessment is job-related, focusing on the physical demands and safety sensitive nature of the work, and is conducted in accordance with Alberta Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) requirements and the Alberta Human Rights Act. The assessment will cover:
  • Health History Review: A thorough examination of the candidate's health background.
  • Pre-Medical Evaluation: Measurements such as height, weight, blood pressure, and oxygen saturation.
  • Musculoskeletal Examination: A head-to-toe assessment to identify any limitations or concerns related to physical health.
  • Critical Strength and Mobility Test: A series of tasks assessing lifting, carrying, and positional abilities aligned with the job's physical demands (up to 50 lbs).
  • Worker to provide current safety training tickets, valid government issued identification, and CSA approved safety boots (minimum 6 inch, fully laceable)
Nice to Have
  • Previous exchanger cleaning, industrial cleaning, hydrovac or vac truck experience
  • Previous shutdown or turnaround experience in oil sands, oil and gas or heavy industrial settings
  • Previous camp experience and a record of finishing the rotation
Work Environment
  • Camp accommodation at Conklin, Alberta for the length of the shutdown
  • Transportation to site provided from Bonnyville, Alberta
  • Very heavy physical work, including repeated lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs, and positional work in tight and awkward spaces
  • Wet conditions and full PPE worn for the length of the shift
  • Outdoor work in all weather, including cold, wind and rain
  • Noise and vibration on the job
  • Candidates must fully understand that this is difficult work and be prepared for uncomfortable conditions
Why Labourers Take This Job
Camp is covered and travel from Bonnyville is provided, so the wage stays in your pocket instead of going to a room and fuel. The start date is fixed, September 25, so you are working inside two weeks of applying rather than waiting on a maybe. Exchanger cleaning is hard, and the hands who do it properly are the ones who get the call for the next shutdown. For someone building a record in oil sands turnaround work, this is a seat that counts.
Pay is a gross hourly rate before deductions.
What We Offer
  • $28.00 per hour
  • Camp accommodation provided at Conklin for the length of the shutdown
  • Travel to site provided from Bonnyville, Alberta
  • Overtime available based on operational requirements
  • Life insurance plus AD&D with critical illness and cancer coverage
  • Extended health and dental: drugs, hospital, vision, paramedical, mental health, and child orthodontics
  • Travel insurance, plus onboarding support and ongoing workforce support from GrizzlyTrek
