Job Description
The primary responsibility of the Tool Maker position is to set-up and operate a variety of machines such as, but not limited to: OD, ID, and Surface grinders, manual milling, Manual Lathes, Drill Presses, and Jig Boring machines to produce parts to specified print tolerances. The individual must be able to follow general machine shop practices while working under minimal supervision.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Set up jigs, fixtures, and all required machines to perform a specified operation
- Responsible for the maintenance of machines, fixtures, tooling and personal protective equipment to assure they are in good working condition and immediately informs supervisor of any defects or unsafe conditions
- Determine the proper tooling, gauges, fixtures, and sequence of operations to produce the part to print tolerance; will work with tolerances as small as .0005 inch; utilize micrometers, height verniers, indicators, snap gauges, bore gauges and comparators
- Accountable for all provided inventories and returning unused inventories to the tool crib on a regular basis
- Responsible for accurately recording and maintaining all data as required by departmental procedures
- Other duties as assigned

WORKING ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:
- May be exposed to moderate heat, light dust, fumes, extreme temperatures, noise and hazards such as electrical shock or gases. Some outside assignments could involve exposure to adverse weather conditions. Adequate hearing protection is required for 85 decibels and above.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:
- This position has supervisory responsibilities.
SCHEDULE:
- 8-hour Day Shift Monday through Friday

Requirements:QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School Diploma or GED
- One year in a manufacturing environment with demonstrated ability of operating metal working machines including set ups
- Knowledge of Shop math and blueprint reading preferred
- Problem solving/troubleshooting skills.
- Experience in production/manufacturing environment preferred.
- Working knowledge of Lean Manufacturing techniques with emphasis on Standardized Work, Continuous Improvement, 5S, and JIT principles preferred
- Ability to stand, stoop, bend and lift from the floor, walk, reach frequently throughout the workday.
- Must be able to work in a team environment.
- Ability to work overtime as needed both daily and weekends.
