JOB SUMMARY

The PM Warehouse Assistant Manager in a fresh produce company supports the Warehouse Manager in overseeing daily operations, ensuring the efficient receipt, storage, and dispatch of fresh produce. This role is critical in maintaining product quality, managing inventory, and ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory standards. The Assistant Warehouse Manager plays a key role in optimizing warehouse processes and supporting the overall supply chain.

Requirements:

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist the Warehouse Manager in coordinating and overseeing daily warehouse activities, including receiving, storage, inventory management, and order fulfillment.
  • Monitor and manage inventory levels to ensure accurate stock counts, prevent overstocking or stockouts, and maintain the freshness of produce.
  • Ensure that all fresh produce is handled, stored, and shipped according to industry standards to maintain product quality and minimize spoilage.
  • Assist in supervising warehouse staff, including training, scheduling, and performance management to ensure a productive and efficient team.
  • Ensure adherence to safety protocols and regulations, including proper use of equipment, safe storage practices, and maintaining a clean and organized warehouse environment.
  • Coordinate with the Warehouse Manager to ensure timely and accurate picking, packing, and shipping of orders, meeting customer delivery expectations.
  • Assist in the maintenance of warehouse equipment, ensuring it is in good working condition and arranging for repairs when necessary.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements within the warehouse, including workflow optimization and implementation of best practices.
  • Maintain accurate records of inventory, shipments, and other warehouse activities, ensuring data is up-to-date and easily accessible.
  • Work closely with other departments, including procurement, logistics, and sales, to ensure seamless integration of warehouse operations within the overall supply chain.
  • Manage trailer positions on the dock and moving them when necessary.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma or equivalent; associate degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, or a related field is preferred.
  • 3-5 years of experience in warehouse operations, with at least 1 year in a supervisory or leadership role, preferably in the fresh produce or food distribution industry.
  • Proficiency in warehouse management systems (WMS) and other relevant software, such as inventory management tools and barcode scanners.
  • Ability to perform physical tasks, including lifting, carrying, and standing for extended periods, as required in a warehouse environment.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to effectively coordinate with team members and other departments.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to address operational challenges quickly and effectively.
  • Meticulous attention to detail in managing inventory, ensuring accuracy in stock counts and order fulfillment.

PREFERRED SKILLS

  • Possession of a forklift operator certification is highly desirable.
  • Understanding of the specific storage and handling requirements for fresh produce, including temperature control and shelf-life management.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and motivate a team, particularly in a fast-paced, high-demand environment.
  • Proficiency in Spanish or Haitian Creole is a plus, especially in diverse work environments.
  • Yard Jockey/CDL Preferred.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Work is primarily performed in a warehouse environment with exposure to varying temperatures, especially in areas where fresh produce is stored.
  • Fast-paced environment requiring management of multiple warehouse operations and staff simultaneously.
  • May require weekend or evening work based on operational needs.
  • Frequent interaction with warehouse staff, other departments, and external vendors or carriers.
  • Compliance with safety protocols and regulatory standards, including proper use of equipment and safe storage practices.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to lift and carry items, as needed, within warehouse operations.
  • Frequent standing, walking, bending, stooping, reaching, pushing, and pulling during daily warehouse tasks.
  • Ability to operate warehouse equipment, including forklifts and pallet jacks (certification preferred).
  • Frequent use of hands and fingers for scanning, packing, and handling inventory.
  • Visual ability to inspect inventory, shipments, and equipment for quality and accuracy.
