Job Description
Under the general supervision of the Senior Animal Control Officer, Kennel Technicians are responsible for the daily care of all animals at the animal shelter. This position conducts proper cleaning and disinfecting of all rooms/kennels to provide a healthy environment for the animals in our care. The Kennel team provides our animals with love, compassion, daily exercise and enrichment. This position works approximately 20 hours per week.
- Perform daily cleaning of kennels, cages, and public areas, following proper disease control protocols
- Clean and maintain equipment: i.e., carriers, leashes, brushes, etc.
- Stock all kennel and cleaning supplies, and maintain inventory
- Wash food bowls and water bowls and store them in an orderly fashion
- Provide each animal with food and water following approved feeding protocols
- Assist as needed with the check-in of new animals and inspection
- Monitor animals and inform the Animal Control Officer or veterinarian of any health issues or unusual behavior with the animals
- Maintain stock and storage rooms in a neat and organized manner, stock inventory of food, litter, cleaning supplies, boarding equipment, etc.
- Responsible for exercising various types of animals
- Must be able to deal amicably with the public
- Assist with City outreach events such as low-cost vaccinations and pet adoption opportunities.
- Performs all other duties as assigned.
- General knowledge of animals
- Must be able to communicate orally and in writing
- Ability to work outside
- Ability to work sitting, standing, and moving about for periods of time
- Ability to keep records, maintain schedule, and handle paper work tasks
- Basic Computer skills required

MINIMUM EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- High school diploma or G.E.D. required.
- Must have a valid Texas driver’s license
Must be physically fit with the ability to lift or carry up to 80 pounds without assistance. Ability to push, pull or carry up to 200 pounds with assistance. Must be able to work on your feet for a continuous eight-hour shift in both indoor and outdoor locations.
