Title: Associate Director of Adult Pathways and Career Education - Alfred State College

Location: Alfred, NY Category: Professional Bargaining Unit - UUP Job Type: Full-time Posted On: Thu Oct 15 2026 Job Description:

The Associate Director of Adult Pathways and Career Education provides dedicated enrollment leadership for Alfred State's expanding adult and career education portfolio, including online learning, SUNY Reconnect, microcredentials, non-credit education, workforce training, and professional and continuing education.

Reporting to the AVP of Integrated Enrollment Services, this position serves as a member of the Enrollment Management leadership team and works closely with Student Records and Financial Services, Marketing and Communications, Academic Affairs, Online Programs, advising and student success teams, and other campus partners.

This is a hands-on leadership role focused on growing Alfred State's adult pathways recruitment and enrollment efforts. The Associate Director will provide coordination and direction for this work while remaining actively engaged in recruitment, outreach, relationship-building, and enrollment support.

The position will lead efforts to attract and support adult learners who are seeking to complete a degree, begin an online program, return to college after time away, maximize prior college credit, participate in SUNY Reconnect, or advance their careers through short-term training, microcredentials, and professional development.

A key responsibility of the role will be creating a more coordinated and seamless enrollment experience for adult learners by connecting prospective students with the right academic programs, financial resources, support services, and next steps. The Associate Director will also help implement and optimize CRM strategies for adult learner recruitment, including inquiry management, communications, recruitment activities, application support, funnel tracking, and enrollment reporting.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Lead and support recruitment and enrollment efforts for adult learners across degree, online, microcredential, non-credit, workforce training, and professional development pathways.
  • Serve as a key point of coordination for adult learners, helping prospective students understand program options, admissions requirements, financial aid basics, SUNY Reconnect eligibility, transfer credit, credit for prior learning, registration steps, and next actions toward enrollment.
  • Coordinate outreach to adult learner populations, including prospective students, stop-out and readmit populations, online prospects, military-connected students, employer-referred students, and individuals seeking career advancement or retraining.
  • Support the implementation and ongoing management of CRM processes for adult learner recruitment, including inquiry tracking, communication plans, recruitment activities, application support, funnel reporting, and campaign performance analysis.
  • Collaborate with Marketing and Communications to develop adult-focused recruitment materials, web content, email campaigns, digital marketing strategies, event promotion, and partner-facing communications.
  • Work with Academic Affairs, Online Programs, advising, and student success teams to understand and promote adult-friendly program options, delivery formats, course sequencing, scheduling needs, and support structures.
  • Partner with Student Records and Financial Services to support adult learners through questions related to financial aid, billing, registration, transfer credit, credit for prior learning, and enrollment completion.
  • Coordinate recruitment, outreach, enrollment tracking, and follow-up activities related to SUNY Reconnect and other adult learner initiatives.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with employers, workforce organizations, community-based organizations, county agencies, military and veteran organizations, and other external partners.
  • Represent Alfred State at community events, employer events, information sessions, virtual recruitment events, and other adult learner outreach opportunities.
  • Analyze inquiry, application, admission, registration, and enrollment data to identify trends, opportunities, barriers, and areas for improvement.
  • Recommend improvements to communications, processes, handoffs, technology, and support structures that strengthen the adult learner enrollment experience.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of a coordinated Adult Pathways enrollment strategy aligned with institutional enrollment goals and the College's strategic plan.

Job Requirements:

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
  • Experience in admissions, enrollment management, student services, advising, adult learner support, online program recruitment, continuing education, workforce development, career education, or a related field.
  • Experience supervising or coordinating people and projects, with the ability to manage multiple priorities, recruitment activities, communication plans, and follow-up processes.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and relationship-building skills.
  • Experience using technology, CRM systems, student information systems, reporting tools, or related platforms to support recruitment or enrollment activity.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across departments and build productive relationships with campus and external partners.
  • Strong attention to detail, follow-through, and commitment to student service.
  • Commitment to access, student success, workforce development, and career-focused education.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree.
  • Experience with adult learner recruitment, SUNY Reconnect or similar adult re-engagement programs, online degree enrollment, transfer recruitment, microcredentials, non-credit education, or workforce/professional training.
  • Experience using Slate or another CRM to manage inquiries, communication flows, recruitment campaigns, events, application follow-up, and enrollment reporting.
  • Knowledge of transfer credit, credit for prior learning, articulation pathways, program maps, financial aid processes, and common barriers faced by adult learners.
  • Experience developing partnerships with employers, workforce agencies, community organizations, military/veteran organizations, or regional partners.
  • Experience creating or supporting digital campaigns, adult-focused outreach materials, information sessions, or community-based recruitment events.
  • Ability to interpret enrollment data and use reporting to inform outreach strategy, improve conversion, and support decision-making.
  • Demonstrated success growing enrollment, participation, or engagement among adult learners or within expanded educational pathway programs.

Keys to Success:

  • A strong understanding of the needs and motivations of adult learners, including students balancing education with work, family responsibilities, financial considerations, career transition, or prior college experience.
  • The ability to explain complex educational options clearly and help prospective students identify the pathway that best fits their goals.
  • A student-centered, service-oriented approach with strong follow-through.
  • The ability to work independently while contributing effectively to a collaborative, cross-functional team.
  • A strategic and entrepreneurial mindset with the ability to identify new recruitment opportunities, remove enrollment barriers, and help build sustainable processes.
  • The ability to translate strategy into measurable recruitment and enrollment activity.

Strategic Importance to the College

The goal is to create a clearer entry point for adult learners and stronger connections among short-term training, credentials, and degree pathways.

The Associate Director will also help build the infrastructure necessary for long-term growth, including CRM development, inquiry management, coordinated communications, employer and community partnerships, enrollment reporting, and data-informed recruitment strategy.

This work aligns closely with Alfred State's next institutional strategic plan and the College's continued focus on access, workforce development, flexible educational pathways, and career-focused learning.
