Position Details
We are looking for a Senior Financial Analyst to join our Victoria office. In this role, you will support the Financial Controller by strengthening the organization's financial accounting, project financial management, and financial planning capabilities. The position is responsible for improving the accuracy, consistency, and efficiency of key financial processes while providing meaningful financial analysis, management reporting, and business insights that support informed decision-making. Working closely with project managers and the finance team, the role contributes to financial compliance, operational performance, continuous process improvement, and the ongoing evolution of the finance function to support the organization's long-term growth.

Key Responsibilities
Financial Accounting & Operational Finance
- Own and improve key financial accounting processes including reconciliations, statutory remittances, employee benefits, and compliance activities to ensure accurate, timely, and well-controlled financial information.
- Prepare and review GST, WCB, Employer Health Tax (EHT), Group Registered Retirement Savings Plan (RRSP), and other regulatory reporting requirements to ensure compliance and accuracy.
- Support month-end and year-end close activities by reviewing financial transactions, identifying discrepancies, and ensuring appropriate accounting treatment.
- Develop and maintain documented finance processes and controls to improve consistency, reduce risk, and support scalability as the organization grows.
Project Financial Performance & Analysis
- Monitor and analyze project financial performance including revenue, margins, utilization, work-in-progress (WIP), project performance indicators, and accounts receivable trends to identify risks and opportunities.
- Review project financial results with project managers to understand performance drivers, improve decision-making, and support improved project profitability.
- Support accurate revenue recognition and WIP management through project reviews and analysis of project financial information.
- Coordinate project-related financial activities including subconsultant invoice management, billing support, and review of contractual payment requirements.
Financial Planning, Reporting & Business Insights
- Support the Financial Controller in financial planning and analysis (FP&A) activities including budgeting, forecasting, cash flow reporting, and financial modelling.
- Perform variance analysis between actual results, budgets, and forecasts to identify trends, risks, and opportunities and provide meaningful explanations to management.
- Develop and enhance management reporting and key performance indicator (KPI) dashboards to provide improved visibility into business performance.
- Translate financial data into actionable insights by identifying the key drivers impacting operational and financial results.
Finance Leadership & Team Support
- Act as a key finance partner to the Financial Controller by providing support on financial analysis, reporting, and improvement initiatives.
- Develop a broad understanding of the finance function by collaborating with specialists across accounts payable, payroll, accounts receivable, and project accounting.
- Support knowledge sharing and process improvements across the finance team to reduce dependency on individual roles and strengthen organizational capability.
Qualifications and Experience
- Undergraduate degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, or a related discipline.
- Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation preferred.
- Minimum 5 years of progressive experience in accounting, financial analysis, or financial planning and analysis (FP&A).
- Experience supporting budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, and project financial analysis.
- Experience with ERP or project accounting systems is considered an asset.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including Pivot Tables, Power Query, and financial modelling.
- Experience developing Power BI dashboards or using similar business intelligence and reporting tools.
- An equivalent combination of education and directly related experience may be considered.
