Assistant Manager, Programmatic AdvertisingHachette Book Group’s central advertising department is seeking an Assistant Manager, Programmatic Advertising to assist and oversee digital advertising planning and execution across a wide range of Hachette’s adult publishing categories, including nonfiction, fiction, and select product-driven titles. This role will play a key part in building, optimizing, and analyzing programmatic and self-serve advertising campaigns across major platforms such as Amazon Ads, Meta, Google Ads/YouTube, TikTok Ads, Spotify Ad Studio, Reddit Ads, and additional emerging channels.
The Assistant Manager will guide multiple campaigns from planning and conceptualization all the way through reporting, offering thought leadership on audience behavior and advertising performance, and helping to build infrastructure and best practices for HBG’s expanding programmatic and direct advertising initiatives. This is an exciting opportunity for a detail-oriented, data-focused, and collaborative early-career professional who is eager to deepen their expertise in digital and book advertising.
This role will report to the Associate Director, Advertising and collaborate closely with a variety of Hachette’s fiction and nonfiction publishing divisions as well as cross-functional stakeholders.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Assists in developing and executing advertising campaigns through every phase—brainstorming and conceptualization, planning, optimizations and revisions, creative development, trafficking, QA, optimization, and performance reporting.
- Oversees campaign setup and optimization across select self-serve and programmatic platforms, including Amazon Ads, Meta, Google Ads/YouTube, TikTok, Spotify, Reddit, and additional partners.
- Advocates for advertising strategies rooted in platform data, historical learnings, structured tests, and analytic insights.
- Thinks critically and creatively about targeting approaches, platform capabilities, audience segmentation, and growth opportunities across adult fiction, adult nonfiction, and product categories.
- Manages the creative workflow and traffics assets within internal systems with meticulous attention to data integrity and process efficiency.
- Actively optimizes live campaigns, monitors pacing and KPIs, and communicates actionable insights and recommendations to imprint marketers and divisional partners.
- Maintains a strong understanding of industry trends, platform updates, privacy changes, and emerging technologies by attending events, studying performance data, and running experimental campaigns.
- Partners with the Finance team to track invoices, and coordinate payments.
- Provides administrative and team support, including deck/report creation, meeting scheduling, invoice submission, and documentation maintenance.
- Builds strong, collaborative relationships with vendors, platform representatives, and imprint stakeholders to ensure excellent service and seamless execution.

- Ability to adapt quickly and stay informed on the latest advertising trends, tools, and platform developments.
- Experience working with Amazon Sponsored Ads, Meta Ads Manager, Google Ads/YouTube, TikTok Ads Manager, or similar self-serve platforms.
The Ideal Candidate Will Have
- 2-3 years of experience in marketing or advertising, ideally within book publishing or consumer products.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
- Experience with DSPs, ad serving, or dynamic creative optimization is a plus.
- Familiarity with the marketing funnel, attribution concepts, campaign evaluation metrics, and performance KPIs.
