Job Description
Reporting to the General Manger, the Health & Safety Manager is responsible for the development, implementation, and oversight of all health and safety programs supporting engineering, procurement, and construction activities for the Donlin Gold Project.
This position ensures compliance with regulatory requirements and company policies while promoting a strong, proactive safety culture across Owner’s and EPCm contractor teams.
Provides leadership in identifying, managing, and mitigating occupational health and safety risks associated with large-scale capital project execution in remote and arctic environments. Collaborates with engineering, construction, and project delivery teams to integrate safety into all phases of project planning and execution.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee health and safety performance across EPCm contractors and Owner’s teams to ensure compliance with project standards and regulatory requirements.
- Develop and implement project-specific safety policies, procedures, and best practices in compliance with OSHA, MSHA, and ISO 45001 standards.
- Lead safety teams and coordinate with third-party contractors to support safe project execution.
- Conduct risk assessments, hazard analyses, and job hazard analyses (JHA) to identify and mitigate workplace risks.
- Lead incident investigations, determine root causes, and implement corrective and preventative actions.
- Develop and deliver safety training programs and emergency response planning initiatives.
- Monitor workplace conditions through inspections and audits, recommending and tracking corrective actions.
- Collaborate with engineering and construction teams to ensure safety is integrated into design, planning, and execution activities.
- Maintain safety records, inspection reports, and compliance documentation.
- Promote a proactive safety culture through leadership engagement, communication, and workforce participation.
Qualifications
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Safety Engineering, Occupational Health, or related technical discipline preferred.
Experience:
- Minimum of 15 years of experience in health and safety leadership roles within mining, construction, or industrial environments.
- Experience supporting large-scale capital projects, preferably in remote or arctic environments.
- Strong working knowledge of OSHA, MSHA, and industry safety standards.
- Demonstrated experience with safety audits, risk assessments, and incident investigations.
- Professional certifications such as CSP, CIH, or NEBOSH preferred.
- Proficiency in safety management systems and reporting tools.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.

- Strong ability to influence contractors and project teams.
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively across multidisciplinary project teams.
Working Conditions:
This position may require periodic travel to the Donlin project site and other locations within Alaska. The role may involve work in both office and field environments and coordination with personnel working in remote, camp‑based conditions.
