Job Description

Situated within the shared, unceded territory of the L̓il̓wat7úl (Líl̓wat People) and Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish People), the Resort Municipality of Whistler (RMOW) is a vibrant destination resort community, local government organization and leader in providing municipal programs, services, progressive planning and infrastructure. The Utilities department of the Infrastructure Services division has an opportunity for qualified individuals to apply for the position of Wastewater Operator 1 to 3. Reporting to the Chief Wastewater Operator, this position offers 76.5 hours bi-weekly starting as soon as possible until June 30th, 2027.

The Wastewater Operator will assist in the operation, monitoring, and general maintenance of the Wastewater Treatment Plant equipment and facilities in accordance with the BC Ministry of Environment Regulations. Key duties include routine inspections of equipment, monitors, meters, and control panels to establish schedules and procedures, to operate and maintain a variety of equipment, to assist in the maintenance and repair of mechanical equipment such as pumps, motors, valves, and instruments, carry out routine testing and maintain records and logs.

Qualified candidates possess a grade 12 diploma and preferably completion of post-secondary education in Environmental Monitoring or Water and Wastewater Technology program with a valid EOCP Wastewater Treatment and Wastewater Collections Level 1 certification. Qualified candidates will have 1-2 years of related work experience and sound knowledge of relevant primary, secondary, and tertiary treatment processes, including enhanced biological nutrient removal, SCADA programming, and the methods, practices, tools, materials, and equipment used in the maintenance and operations of a treatment plant. Candidates also possess the ability to read and interpret drawings, maintain daily logs, understand safety regulations and occupational hazards related to the work and be physically able to perform moderate to heavy lifting and work in all weather conditions.

We are interested in varying levels of knowledge, skills and abilities and experience above what is mentioned in the job posting. The wage range based on education, EOCP certification and experience is as follows: Operator 1 - $40.38, Operator 2 - $43.00, Operator 3 - $45.50. This position works 76.5 hours bi-weekly. Employees in the utilities department shall normally work a schedule consisting of 8 days of work in a fourteen-day period. Each day of work shall be 9.5 hours exclusive of one-half (1/2) hour lunch period.

As a requirement of the position, the successful applicant must hold a valid class 5 BC driver’s license and provide a satisfactory driver’s abstract before starting employment.
