- Assess and classify complex life insurance risks in alignment with underwriting guidelines, mortality objectives, and company standards.
- Analyze medical, financial, and non-medical information to make informed underwriting decisions within established approval limits.
- Manage the full underwriting process for high-value applications while ensuring timely and customer-focused service delivery.
- Collaborate with field teams, home office partners, and reinsurance providers to support retention and optimize underwriting outcomes.
- Review referrals from other underwriters and provide guidance or co-signatures when required.
- Contribute to underwriting projects, workflow enhancements, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Support the development and training of junior underwriting professionals by sharing technical expertise and industry knowledge.
- Maintain awareness of regulatory requirements, underwriting trends, insurance products, and market developments.
- 6–8+ years of life insurance underwriting experience, including complex case management.
- Strong expertise in medical, financial, and non-medical underwriting principles and mortality risk assessment.
- College degree required; equivalent underwriting experience may be considered.
- FLMI, ALU, ACS certifications, or active progress toward obtaining these designations.
- Thorough understanding of reinsurance agreements, insurance contract law, and state regulations.
- Strong analytical, decision-making, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities with a customer-focused mindset.
- Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment while managing deadlines and multiple priorities.
- Proficiency with underwriting systems, digital tools, and PC-based work environments.
- Competitive base salary ranging from $120,000 to $130,000 annually
