Applications Engineering

American Power Innovations is the premium provider of power distribution solutions, commonly known as PDCs, PDUs, E-houses or MCC buildings. With our technical expertise, we deliver both standard and customized solutions to meet the complex and evolving needs of our customers in critical industries such as energy, utilities, data centers, and large- scale industrial operations.

Headquartered in Tulsa, OK we are seeking a highly skilled Applications Engineer to join our growing team. This role is responsible for preparing detailed cost estimates for construction and infrastructure projects.

The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of electrical, mechanical, and structural components of power distribution centers and control panels, as well as experience in budgeting, procurement, and vendor negotiations. This role is preferably in office but can be remote with regular and frequent communication with the team in Tulsa.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop comprehensive cost estimates for electrical building projects, including expansion and upgrades.
  • Analyze project requirements, drawings, and specifications to determine scope, materials, and labor needs.
  • Collaborate with engineering, procurement, and project management teams to refine cost projections and ensure accuracy.
  • Demonstrate foresight in evaluating upcoming tasks to identify potential challenges, long-duration activities, or special requirements, while maintaining flexibility to reprioritize in response to evolving sales demands.
  • Source and evaluate pricing from vendors, subcontractors, and suppliers ensure cost- effectiveness.
  • Identify and mitigate potential cost risks and recommend value engineering solutions.
  • Prepare and present cost estimates to stakeholders, including senior management and clients.
  • Maintain up-to-date database of costs, trends, and market conditions relevant to each market that we work with.
  • Assist in the development of bid proposals, contract negotiations, and procurement strategies.
  • Work with CRM software to manage quote timelines and data.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards, regulations, and company policies throughout the estimation process.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field, preferred
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in cost estimation, in data center, mission- critical, or large-scale infrastructure projects.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical systems, controls, and power distribution equipment.
  • Background with low voltage and medium voltage electrical components such as VFDs, switchgear, and MCCs highly preferred
  • Experience with estimating software and tools.
  • Excellent analytical skills with the ability to interpret project specifications and technical documents.
  • Strong negotiation and communication skills for internal and external interactions
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, manage multiple projects, and meet tight deadlines.
  • Familiarity with industry standards.

Work Environment:

This role operates in a professional office environment and occasionally requires visits to production floor and job sites.
