Senior Analyst, Engineering - Telematics Operations in Scottsdale, Arizona at Flexi-Van Leasing LLC

Primary Objectives of Position:

The Senior Analyst, Engineering – Telematics Operations is a senior individual contributor responsible for analyzing, providing technical support, and continuously improving FlexiVan’s GPS/telematics ecosystem. This role independently owns assigned workstreams, monitors device and system performance, ensures data integrity across AIM360 and vendor platforms, resolves complex telematics issues, and collaborates cross-functionally to improve fleet visibility, reliability, and operational performance.

The Senior Analyst works cross-functionally with Field Operations, Maintenance & Repair, Business Intelligence, IT, Finance, Commercial, customers, and telematics vendors to support testing, deployment, integration, and lifecycle management of GPS devices and emerging technologies. The position requires strong initiative, independent judgment, technical curiosity, analytical capability, accountability, and ownership.

Major Duties & Responsibilities

GPS / Telematics Operations

• Manage telematics programs and operational tasks independently, including device activation, connectivity, health checks, configuration, lifecycle management, and ensuring GPS devices are correctly linked to chassis.
• Oversee and analyze device and system performance, addressing issues like non-reporting, poor performance, damage, tampering, misconfiguration, or anomalies; troubleshoot problems related to hardware, vendor systems, interfaces, installation methods, and asset data.
• Collaborate with vendors and FlexiVan teams to handle device installation, activation, replacement, warranty claims, repairs, removals, and recycling, while identifying recurring problems and implementing corrective or preventive solutions.

Data Integrity & Systems Reconciliation

• Ensure data integrity across AIM360, FlexiVan, and vendor systems through reconciliation, validation, and exception analysis.
• Analyze datasets and API/EDI feeds to identify trends, anomalies, reporting gaps, and data-quality issues, and drive corrective action.
• Develop KPIs, dashboards, and exception reporting; perform root-cause analysis and implement controls and process improvements.

GPS Technology, Testing & Location Intelligence

• Support the evaluation, testing, validation, deployment, and post-deployment monitoring of GPS devices, sensors, firmware, configurations, and emerging telematics technologies.
• Execute structured test plans and assess device connectivity, reporting behavior, battery performance, location accuracy, installation quality, durability, tamper activity, and overall performance under real-world intermodal operating conditions.
• Manage geofence, landmark, and location-data requirements within AIM360 and associated vendor systems while supporting technology pilots and enhancements that improve chassis visibility, location accuracy, operational performance, and customer value.

Intermodal Operations, Vendors & Stakeholders

• Leverage telematics data to improve chassis visibility, utilization, location accuracy, container/chassis marriage reporting, and operational decision-making across ports, rail ramps, depots, customer locations, and storage yards.
• Serve as an operational and technical point of contact for assigned telematics vendors; monitor device performance, service levels, warranties, and corrective actions, and ensure issues and vendor obligations are resolved through verified resolution.

Process Improvement, Documentation & Cost Efficiency

• Create and continuously improve SOPs, workflows, technical instructions, troubleshooting guides, and field-facing documentation, identifying opportunities to automate or streamline manual, repetitive, inefficient, or error-prone processes.
• Drive cost and operational-efficiency initiatives across GPS hardware, communications, maintenance and repair, warranty utilization, replacement activity, vendor services, and device lifecycle management.
• Provide technical guidance, knowledge-sharing, onboarding, and mentorship to Telematics Analysts, Field Operations personnel, and other stakeholders; lead or participate in special projects as assigned.

Job Specifications:

Minimum Education / Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business Analytics, Information Systems, Supply Chain, Logistics, Transportation, Data Analytics, or a related field preferred; equivalent education and professional experience may be considered.
• 5 years of relevant professional experience in telematics, GPS/fleet technology, transportation, logistics, intermodal operations, fleet management, supply chain, IoT, asset tracking, or related fields.
• Demonstrated experience independently managing programs, projects, processes, or significant operational workstreams, and driving analytical or technical issues to resolution.

Mandatory Technical Skills

• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Office 365, including PivotTables, lookup functions, data validation, large-dataset analysis, data reconciliation, reporting, KPIs, dashboards, SOPs, and technical documentation.
• Working knowledge of GPS, telematics, IoT, fleet tracking, or connected-device technologies, with demonstrated ability to analyze data across multiple systems, troubleshoot technical and operational issues, and conduct root-cause analysis.
• Demonstrated ability to analyze and reconcile information across multiple systems and data sources and to develop operational reports, KPIs, dashboards, SOPs, and technical documentation.

Other Preferred Skills

• Knowledge of intermodal chassis, marine containers, ports, rail ramps, depots, transportation operations, equipment leasing, and telematics-related cost analysis.
• Familiarity with API/EDI integrations, geofences, GPS/location data, device alerts, exception management, GPS/IoT hardware testing, system testing, field trials, or technology deployments.
• SQL or Python a plus
