Heavy Equipment Diesel Mechanic
Location: Kansas City, MO
Job Type: Direct Hire
Starting Pay: $23.00/hour — may be higher depending on experience
Travel: Up to 50%
Sign-On Bonus: Eligible for a $2,500 sign-on bonus after completing 3 months of assignment
We are seeking an experienced Heavy Equipment Diesel Mechanic to maintain and repair heavy equipment, trucks, trailers, cranes, and other motorized equipment. This position requires strong troubleshooting skills, attention to safety, and the flexibility to respond to emergency repair needs.
24/7 emergency availability and out-of-town/out-of-state travel are required.
Key Responsibilities- Diagnose, repair, and maintain heavy equipment, trucks, trailers, cranes, and related equipment.
- Complete assigned repairs based on daily direction from the Shop Foreman.
- Troubleshoot equipment issues and help minimize equipment downtime.
- Ensure necessary parts, tools, and equipment are available for repairs.
- Complete work orders accurately, including mileage, hours, and repair information.
- Communicate emergency repair needs to the Shop Foreman and prioritize urgent work.
- Keep tools and work areas organized and properly maintained.
- Follow all applicable safety rules and procedures.
- Work collaboratively with other team members to complete repairs efficiently.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Minimum 5 years of maintenance experience working with heavy equipment and/or trailers/cranes.
- At least 5 years of experience in two additional technical areas, such as:
- Hydraulics
- Electronics
- Small engines
- Other related mechanical systems
- High school diploma/GED plus trade school or equivalent diesel mechanical training.
- Two years of technical/vocational training and five years of hands-on repair experience.
- Professional certifications related to heavy equipment maintenance and repair are preferred/required as applicable.
- Valid driver's license with a good driving record.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.
- Able to work under pressure, meet deadlines, and respond with a sense of urgency.
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
- Proficient computer skills.
- Ability to read, write, and communicate in English.
- Available for emergency calls 24/7.
- Willing and able to travel both out of town and out of state.
- Up to 50% travel may be required.
- Frequent bending, twisting, stooping, walking, and lifting.
- Ability to work outdoors and in varying weather conditions.
- Ability to work extended hours when necessary.
- Regularly lift up to 50 lbs.
- Assistance is required for items weighing more than 75 lbs.
