SUMMARY

Reporting to the Director of Purchasing and Materials Management, The Driver is responsible for the safe and timely transportation of staff between clinic sites and offsite parking locations using a 12-passenger van, and for driving CCPHD's mobile clinic unit (Ford F550) to and from community events. This position plays a key role in supporting daily clinic operations and community health outreach efforts by ensuring reliable, safe transportation of personnel and mobile clinic unit.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Staff Transportation Duties:

Drive 12-passenger cargo van to transport staff safely between offsite parking areas and clinic facilities on a scheduled/recurring basis.

  • Maintain punctual, dependable pick-up and drop-off schedules to minimize disruption to clinic operations.
  • Ensure all passengers follow safety protocols (seatbelts, occupancy limits, loading/unloading procedures).

Mobile Clinic Transportation Duties:

  • Drive the mobile medical clinic unit (Ford F550) to and from designated community outreach events, health fairs, and offsite service locations as scheduled.
  • Safely navigate and park the mobile unit at event sites, accounting for size, clearance, and site accessibility.
  • Assist clinical/outreach staff with basic set-up and break-down logistics related to the mobile unit as needed (e.g., leveling, generator/power hookup, stabilization — adjust based on actual unit configuration).
  • Coordinate scheduling and routing with clinical and outreach staff to ensure the mobile unit arrives ready for patient care activities.

Vehicle Maintenance and Safety Compliance Duties:

  • Conduct pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections on both the van and mobile clinic unit, documenting any mechanical issues or safety concerns.
  • Ensure vehicle is properly fueled and ready for use.
  • Report maintenance needs promptly and coordinate scheduled service, inspections, and repairs with the appropriate department.
  • Maintain vehicles in a clean, organized, and presentable condition inside and out.
  • Ensure compliance with all Texas Department of Motor Vehicles (TxDMV) and, if applicable, Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations.
  • Maintain accurate mileage, fuel, and trip logs for each vehicle.
  • Ensure all required vehicle documentation (registration, insurance, inspection stickers) are current and on file/in vehicle.

  • Maintains compliance with all requirements of federal, state, and local regulations and guidelines including the Civil Rights Act of 1964, as amended, the Age Discrimination in Employment Act of 1967, as amended, and the Americans with Disabilities Act, as amended.

OTHER DUTIES

  • Performs other related duties as may be assigned by Director of Purchasing and Materials Management, and/or Executive Leadership Team.
Requirements:

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

The experience requirements listed below represent the minimum professional background needed to perform this job successfully. Required experience reflects what a candidate must have to be considered for the position; Preferred experience reflects additional background that would strengthen a candidate's qualifications but is not mandatory.

Required

  • Minimum of 5 years of driving experience with valid driver’s license.

Preferred

  • Minimum of 2 years of driving experience in a professional or commercial capacity.
  • Experience driving passenger vans and/or larger trucks (e.g., box trucks, F-450/F-550 class vehicles).

QUALIFICATIONS

Required

  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
  • Valid Texas driver's license in good standing.
  • Clean driving record with no more than 2 moving violations in past 3 years and no DUI/DWI convictions.
  • Must pass a motor vehicle records (MVR) check and be insurable under CCPHD’s commercial auto insurance policy.
  • Strong knowledge of safe driving practices and Texas traffic laws.
  • Ability to operate a 12-passenger van and a medium-duty truck (F550) safely and confidently, including in varied weather and road conditions typical of rural southeast Texas.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude to identify vehicle issues before they become significant problems.

Must be able to work independently with limited supervision. Demonstrate strong communication skills with ability to interact professionally and courteously with staff, patients, and the public. Requires strong time-management skills and reliability in maintaining schedules.
