Director, Business Development

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Director, Business Development based in United States.

This role offers the opportunity to lead strategic business development initiatives within the aerospace and defense sector, driving growth through market intelligence, customer engagement, and capture execution.
The Director, Business Development will identify emerging opportunities, build strong relationships with key stakeholders, and guide campaigns that support long-term business objectives.
You will collaborate with internal technical teams, international business units, and external partners to develop winning strategies and secure new programs.
The position requires a strong understanding of defense acquisition processes, customer needs, and complex sales environments.
This is a high-impact role for an experienced business development leader who thrives on strategic planning, relationship building, and mission-focused growth.
You will contribute directly to expanding market presence while supporting innovative solutions for government and defense customers.

Accountabilities:

The Director, Business Development will lead and execute growth strategies by identifying opportunities, developing capture plans, and building strong relationships with defense customers and industry partners.

  • Conduct market research and identify new business opportunities with Department of Defense agencies, prime contractors, resellers, and platform partners.
  • Develop and execute campaign strategies and capture plans to support successful program awards.
  • Lead opportunity identification, qualification, pursuit strategy, and business development activities from early engagement through capture.
  • Establish, organize, and manage proposal efforts in collaboration with technical, engineering, and capture teams.
  • Coordinate closely with international business units and business development teams to align strategies, resources, and customer engagement activities.
  • Present campaign status updates, including win strategies, schedules, funding profiles, opportunity assessments, and probability of success.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with customers, government stakeholders, industry partners, and internal leadership teams.
  • Engage with stakeholders across different organizational levels, from functional teams to executive leadership.
  • Support trade shows, conferences, and industry events to strengthen market presence and identify new opportunities.
  • Utilize CRM tools and relationship management practices to track opportunities, customer engagement, and business development activities.
Requirements:

The ideal candidate is an experienced business development professional with a strong background in aerospace systems, defense acquisition, and strategic customer engagement.

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • 10+ years of experience in aerospace systems marketing, defense acquisition, or related business development environments.
  • Strong knowledge of Department of Defense acquisition processes and contracting practices.
  • Proven experience developing capture strategies, managing complex opportunities, and supporting proposal activities.
  • Strong customer relationship management skills with the ability to build trust across government, industry, and internal stakeholders.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present strategies and recommendations effectively.
  • Ability to work independently in a remote environment while collaborating effectively with distributed teams.
  • Experience supporting technical, engineering, and capture teams throughout business development activities.
  • Ability and willingness to travel frequently to customer locations, company sites, and industry events, including some international travel.
  • Active U.S. Secret Clearance required.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Knowledge of airborne radar sensors, operating modes, and related technologies.
  • Familiarity with ITAR, export regulations, and international defense sales processes.
  • Understanding of information assurance, anti-tamper requirements, and their impact on program execution.
  • Knowledge of defense sustainment business models, including Performance Based Logistics (PBL).
  • Experience with DoD contracting vehicles such as IDIQ agreements.
  • Familiarity with defense technology programs and government procurement environments.
