Job Description

Job Summary:

The Grants Manager leads all foundation and corporate foundation grant activities at Urban Peak. The Grants Manager also collaborates with an external Grants Consultant to manage government grant activity. The Grants Manager role manages the full funding lifecycle, including prospect research, proposal development, submission, reporting, and stewardship. This position serves as the primary contact and central project manager for foundation, corporate and faith-based revenue sources. The Grants Manager coordinates cross-functional teams to ensure proposals and reporting are executed accurately and on time.

In addition to foundation, corporate and faith-based grants, Urban Peak manages a significant portfolio of government funding. The Grants Manager works with an external Grants Consultant and UP’s internal Compliance Manager to ensure government proposal deadlines are met, contracts are signed, funds are properly tracked, and deliverables do not fall through the cracks. The Grants Manager role requires strong written and verbal communication skills, organization skills and advanced project management capabilities.

The Grants Manager works collaboratively with the Director of Development, Development team, Research & Evaluation team, Finance team, Program teams, Compliance Manager, and external government Grants Consultant to support sustainable revenue growth.

Who You Are:

  • Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of three (3) years of experience in nonprofit development, grant writing, grant management or related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Demonstrated success writing and managing foundation and/or government grants
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines, stakeholders, and competing priorities
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate programmatic content into compelling proposals
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and system-oriented
  • Ability to work collaboratively across departments and hold stakeholders accountable to deadlines
  • Experience with Raiser’s Edge system and grant tracking tools preferred
  • Confidence in timely and accurate data collection and the ability to maintain accurate and thorough client files
  • Lived experience reflective of the youth we serve is encouraged but not required.
  • Understanding of trauma-informed care and commitment to Urban Peak’s mission
  • Team-oriented and able to coordinate with various departments and staff.
  • Computer proficient and possess experience of Microsoft Office Suite (e.g. Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel).
  • Must be insurable as a driver on Urban Peak’s auto liability policy to conduct business on behalf of the agency or transport youth using an Urban Peak vehicle and an approved personal vehicle.
  • Ability to pass both federal and state background checks.
  • Ability to pass pre-employment TB Screening and a pre-employment physical examination.
  • Provide proof of education (HS Diploma OR Official Transcripts)

  • What You Will Do:

    Institutional & Corporate Foundations

  • Partner with the Director of Development to align foundation and corporate funding with overall development strategy
  • Write, edit, and submit clear, compelling grant proposals, letters of inquiry, and reports for foundation, corporate foundation, and select government opportunities
  • Manage a portfolio of foundation, corporate and faith-based funders, including communication, stewardship, and renewals
  • Partner with the Director of Development and CEO to support cultivation and stewardship of institutional foundation and corporate funders
  • Collaborate with Research & Evaluation team to include accurate, achievable outcome data in proposals and reports.
  • Maintain and refine proposal templates, boilerplate language, and supporting materials
  • Project Management & Systems

  • Build and maintain a comprehensive system to track all foundation, corporate and government funding activities, deadlines, and deliverables utilizing Raiser’s Edge and additional project management tools
  • Prioritize funding opportunities based on organizational capacity and strategic alignment
  • Collaborate with Director of Development and Finance team to monitor and forecast grant revenue, including awarded, pending, and pipeline funding.
  • Identify and analyze new funding prospects aligned with Urban Peak’s programs and priorities
  • Establish and reinforce clear workflows and accountability across internal teams and ensure no deadlines, reporting requirements, or compliance elements fall through the cracks
  • Lead proposal development and monitor project implementation for full lifecycle of large, restricted foundation grants, aligning stakeholders on scope, timelines and deliverables.
  • Government Grants & Contracts

  • Collaborate with external Grants Consultant and Compliance Manager to manage the full lifecycle of government funding, including opportunity analysis, proposal development, award setup, implementation and reporting.
  • Collaborate with external Grants Consultant and Compliance Manager to ensure coordination across programs, finance, compliance, and leadership during proposal development, award set up and reporting.
  • Support external Grants Consultant in leading planning and kickoff processes for new opportunities.
  • Maintain regular communication with Finance to monitor budgets and spending to ensure alignment with contract requirements.
  • Collaborate with Compliance Manager to ensure timely and accurate completion of all required reports, including quarterly and annual submissions.
