About the Position:

As a Senior Director - Tax with Cologix you will partner with executive leadership to define and optimize the Company’s global tax strategy and provide thought leadership and expertise in support of a variety of growth strategies including the acquisition and/or construction of new data centers. You will lead the continued development and scalability of the tax function to support rapid organizational growth.

Operationally, you will lead a team of internal and external resources to ensure the timely, accurate, and complete tax filings of all US and Canadian federal, state, provincial returns, supporting workpapers and journal entries as well as any correspondence and/or audits with these jurisdictions. You will be responsible for the preparation of the global income tax provision calculations, journal entries, footnote disclosures and any corresponding documentation. You will lead or support a variety of efforts to optimize the Company’s tax position through tax planning, property tax valuation challenges, tax incentive pursuits, and others as possible.

The ideal candidate will have solid knowledge of and experience with US and Canadian tax laws for all tax types, tax accounting under US GAAP, as well as strong system and communication skills.

What you do daily:

The Senior Director – Tax will lead efforts to ensure the following:

  • Provide thought leadership and effective communications of all tax areas, tax planning, compliance, incentive pursuits, and other activities to optimize the Cologix tax position
  • Timely, accurate and complete preparation, review and/or approval of all US and Canada federal, state, provincial tax compliance for all tax types including income, sales and use, property, payroll
  • Timely and accurate global income tax provision calculations, footnote disclosures with appropriate corresponding documentation and lead conversations with financial audit team with respect to the tax provision in support of financial reporting
  • Ensure compliance calendar is maintained and met, and preparatory steps are completed timely and accurately including depreciation calculations, provision workpapers, deferred tax schedules
  • Lead team in ensuring effective communications with tax jurisdictions on correspondence, audits, optimization efforts
  • Provide thought leadership on tax implications and strategies on Company strategic growth initiatives including business combinations, asset or stock acquisitions, large construction projects, joint ventures, executive compensation impacts, etc.
  • Continue the pursuit of policy, process and software options to develop and scale the tax function in support of ongoing growth
What makes you a good fit: (Qualifications)

Essential:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Accounting from an accredited university with a Master of Taxation Preferred
  • Certified Public Accountant
  • 10 or more years of US corporate income tax compliance / tax return experience, US partnership reporting, Canadian corporate income tax and/or partnership reporting experience
  • 10 or more years of income tax provision preparation including journal entries and footnotes
  • Demonstrated experience and knowledge of all tax types including income, sales and use, Canadian VAT, property and payroll taxes
  • Demonstrated experience with transfer pricing concepts, transactions, documentation
  • Effective at leading people / teams to ensure objectives are met, including members of the tax team, other internal organizations such as accounting as well as a variety of external advisors
  • Excellent communication skills to interact effectively with various internal departments and functions including executive team, legal, accounting, HR, sales, construction and operations
  • Proven ability to effectively manage correspondence and/or audits with a variety of tax jurisdictions
  • Strong understanding and effective management of software platforms for tax provision and compliance support, CCH / Wolters Kluwer preferred
  • Strong supplementary system skills including ERP management, Netsuite experience preferred, and Excel
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills; must be able to recognize problems, think critically, and be proactive in finding solutions
  • Highly organized with a strong drive and passion to meet objectives and ensure personal success and success of the company

Desirable:

  • Telecom, data center and/or real estate industry familiarity

Individual compensation will be commensurate with the candidate's experience. This position will also be eligible for an annual bonus.
