Part-Time Lecturer in Classical Reception, Department of Classics
The Classics Department at the University of Pittsburgh seeks a lecturer for one 3-credit section of CLASSICS 1185: SCIENCE FICTION & THE ANCIENTS. We welcome applicants who approach ancient literature and classical reception through a lens of science fiction studies. The successful candidate's scholarly interests and experience will include a focus on the literary study of ancient and modern texts and the intellectual history of scientific and political philosophy, with specific emphasis on the reception of ancient art and literature in modern science fiction and African American literature. The successful candidate will need to have in hand, at the time of the hire, an MA in Classics or a related field and experience in teaching or supporting this or a similar course in the American post-secondary system.
The appointment is for the summer semester, June 15, 2026, through August 15, 2026. This class will be taught remotely.
