The Registered Nurse (RN)-Non Invasive Cardiology is responsible for providing professional nursing care to patients undergoing diagnostic and therapeutic procedures within the Non-Invasive Cardiology Department. The RN coordinates patient care before, during, and after cardiovascular procedures, including initiation of intravenous access, administration and monitoring of moderate (conscious) sedation, patient assessment, patient education, and emergency response when necessary. The RN collaborates with physicians, advanced practice providers, sonographers, cardiovascular technologists, and ancillary staff to deliver safe, high-quality patient care.

RN Details
Essential Job Duties:
Clinical Care
- Perform comprehensive patient assessments, including review of medical history, medications, allergies, and procedural appropriateness.
- Obtain and document vital signs and cardiovascular assessments.
- Initiate and maintain peripheral intravenous access.
- Administer medications as prescribed and monitor patient response.
- Provide patient and family education regarding procedures, risks, benefits, and post-procedure instructions.
- Recognize and respond appropriately to changes in the patient's condition.
Procedural Support
- Prepare patients for non-invasive cardiovascular testing and procedures.
- Assist physicians and advanced practice providers during cardiovascular procedures.
- Administer and monitor moderate (conscious) sedation in accordance with hospital policies and regulatory requirements.
- Monitor and document patient status before, during, and after sedation and procedures.
- Recover patients following sedation and ensure discharge criteria are met.
- Maintain procedural documentation and accurate electronic medical record entries.

- Cardioversions
- Exercise and Pharmacologic Stress Testing
- Stress Echocardiography
- Bubble Studies
- Definity/Contrast Echocardiography
- Tilt Table Testing
- Vascular Procedures requiring IV access or sedation
- Other diagnostic and therapeutic procedures performed within Non-Invasive Cardiology
Patient Safety and Quality
- Ensure compliance with sedation, infection prevention, and patient safety protocols.
- Verify patient identification and procedural consents.
- Maintain emergency equipment and supplies in a state of readiness.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and departmental performance activities.
- Report and document adverse events in accordance with organizational policies.
Collaboration and Communication
- Communicate effectively with physicians, nursing units, scheduling teams, and procedural staff.
- Coordinate patient flow to promote efficient operations and patient satisfaction.
- Serve as a clinical resource to staff regarding cardiovascular procedures and patient care.
Qualifications:
- Associate Degree in Nursing required; Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing preferred.
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in Indiana
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification required or obtained within 3 months of hire.
- Minimum of two years of clinical nursing experience preferred.
- Experience administering and monitoring moderate sedation preferred.
- Experience with cardiovascular patient populations preferred.
- Must meet and deal successfully with a wide variety of people.
- Must be accomplished in written and verbal communication.
- Flexible schedule to meet the demands of the department
