Position Summary
Del Norte Animal Hospital is seeking a skilled and compassionate Veterinary Assistant / Treatment Technician to join our full-time team. This hands-on role is vital to daily hospital operations and patient care. The Treatment Technician provides direct animal care, assists veterinarians and licensed technicians during treatments and procedures, supports clients through clear communication, and helps ensure efficient hospital workflow. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys technical skills, patient advocacy, and teamwork in a fast-paced clinical environment.

Key Responsibilities
- Provide safe, compassionate handling of canine and feline patients, including fearful, anxious, or reactive animals
- Monitor hospitalized and post-operative patients, providing comfort and assistance during recovery
- Assist veterinarians and licensed technicians during examinations, treatments, and medical procedures
- Perform venipuncture, administer medications and vaccines, and conduct basic
- Process and prepare laboratory samples, including blood work and urinalysis
- Educate clients on treatment plans, medications, and home care instructions
- Communicate with clients in a clear, empathetic, and professional manner before, during, and after visits
- Accurately document treatments, observations, and patient information in the electronic medical record (EMR)
- Assist with appointment preparation, billing questions, and inventory restocking as needed
- Clean and prepare exam and treatment areas; sterilize equipment according to hospital protocols
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized hospital environment, including laundry, sweeping, mopping, and waste disposal
Skills & Qualities
- Strong animal handling skills with confidence working with pets of all sizes and temperaments
- High attention to detail in patient care, treatments, and medical recordkeeping
- Physical stamina to work on your feet for extended periods and lift pets up to 50 pounds (walk dogs up to 130 pounds)
- Compassion, patience, and emotional resilience when caring for ill, injured, or anxious patients
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work effectively within a team
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Minimum of 1 year of veterinary hospital experience preferred
- Interest in advancing toward a veterinary technician career path is strongly encouraged
- Comfort working in a fast-paced, clinical environment with changing priorities
Schedule & Work Environment
- Full-time position
- Schedule consists of 4 shifts per week, 10 hours per shift
- Must be available to work at least one weekend day
- In-person work within an active veterinary hospital setting
