Summary:
Vighter is recruiting a Certified Audiology Technician (Hearing Aid Technician) in Baton Rouge, LA to perform patient care for audiology outpatients in accordance with established policies, procedures, protocols, and guidelines. The Audiology Technician / Hearing Aid Technician provides technical, clinical support, and administrative assistance to licensed Audiologists in the delivery of audiology and hearing healthcare services.
The Audiology Technician performs routine audiologic support procedures, hearing aid maintenance and troubleshooting, equipment preparation, patient education, inventory management, documentation, and other duties within the technician's authorized scope of practice. The Audiology Technician works under the direction and supervision of a licensed Audiologist and does not independently diagnose hearing disorders, interpret diagnostic findings, prescribe treatment, or perform other functions reserved for a licensed Audiologist.

Principal Accountabilities:
- Assist Audiologists with the delivery of outpatient audiology and hearing healthcare services in accordance with applicable laws, regulations, clinical protocols, and facility policies.
- Prepare patients, examination rooms, audiometric booths, equipment, supplies, and hearing devices for scheduled audiology appointments and procedures.
- Obtain and document patient information, histories, questionnaires, and other information as directed by the supervising Audiologist.
- Perform authorized hearing screenings and routine audiometric procedures after demonstrating competency and when permitted by applicable regulations and facility policy.
- Perform pure-tone air-conduction testing, hearing screenings, immittance screening, otoacoustic emission screening, or other authorized testing.
- Perform nondiagnostic otoscopic inspection when trained, authorized, and directed by the supervising Audiologist.
- Assist the Audiologist during diagnostic evaluations, hearing aid evaluations, hearing aid fittings, follow-up appointments, electrophysiologic testing, balance testing, and other audiology procedures.
- Prepare, clean, inspect, troubleshoot, and perform routine maintenance on hearing aids, earmolds, assistive listening devices, accessories, and related hearing healthcare equipment.
- Conduct visual inspections and listening checks of hearing aids and other amplification devices.
- Perform minor hearing aid repairs and maintenance, including replacement of tubing, hooks, filters, wax guards, batteries, domes, receivers, and other user-serviceable components within the technician's demonstrated competency.
- Clean and disinfect hearing aids, earmolds, accessories, reusable equipment, work surfaces, and patient-care areas in accordance with infection-control requirements.
- Assist with hearing aid programming activities when authorized and supervised by the Audiologist, including preparation of devices using manufacturer software and restoration of previously established patient settings.
- Perform electroacoustic analysis or other technical verification of hearing devices.
- Prepare hearing aids, earmolds, accessories, and other devices for manufacturer or laboratory repair and process associated shipping, receiving, tracking, and return documentation.
- Assist patients with proper insertion, removal, operation, cleaning, maintenance, charging, battery replacement, and routine care of hearing aids and related accessories.
- Provide patients with approved instructions regarding hearing aid use, care, maintenance, and troubleshooting consistent with the treatment plan established by the Audiologist.
- Demonstrate the operation and routine care of assistive listening devices and other authorized hearing technologies.
- Maintain accurate inventory of hearing aids, loaner devices, accessories, batteries, earmolds, clinical supplies, repair components, and other audiology equipment.
- Monitor supply levels and initiate authorized orders or replenishment requests to maintain clinical inventory.
- Communicate with hearing aid manufacturers, laboratories, vendors, and suppliers regarding authorized orders, repairs, warranties, returns, replacements, and equipment status.
- Perform routine equipment checks and assist with tracking calibration, preventive maintenance, repair, and service requirements for audiometric and audiology equipment.
- Maintain clean, organized, safe, and properly stocked patientcare and technical work areas.
- Document patient encounters, hearing aid services, equipment transactions, repairs, supplies, and other activities accurately and timely in the designated electronic health record or other approved information system.
- Schedule or assist with scheduling audiology appointments, hearing aid services, repairs, follow-up visits, and other patient encounters as assigned.
- Respond professionally to patient questions and refer clinical questions requiring assessment, interpretation, counseling, diagnosis, or treatment recommendations to the supervising Audiologist.
- Protect patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA, Privacy Act, information-security, and facility requirements.
- Follow applicable infection prevention, occupational safety, patient safety, and quality-assurance requirements.
- Identify equipment malfunctions, patient-safety concerns, unusual findings, or circumstances requiring professional clinical judgment and promptly notify the supervising Audiologist.
- Participate in competency assessments, continuing education, quality-improvement activities, staff meetings, and required training.
- Maintain effective working relationships with Audiologists, physicians, nurses, technicians, administrative personnel, patients, family members, and other members of the healthcare team.
- Perform other duties within the employee's training, demonstrated competency, authorized scope of practice, and contractual requirements as assigned.

- Knowledge of regulations (HIPAA/Privacy Act) regarding the confidentiality of patient medical records and information as well as Personally Identifiable Information (PII).

Knowledge and Skills:
- Correctly utilize and/or apply; medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, psychology, pharmacology, medical ethics and legal concepts, clinical procedures and patient care.
- Must be technically proficient in the skills necessary to fulfill the job requirements, including ability to speak, understand, read and write English fluently.
- Must have exceptional customer service skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced changing environment with limited supervision
- Excellent organizational, scheduling and prioritization skills.
Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent is required.
- Completion of an Audiology Assistant, Hearing Aid Technician, Hearing Instrument Technician, healthcare technician.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of one (1) year of experience in the outpatient clinical setting within the past two (2) years.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification is required.
Duty Hours / On-call Requirements:
- The expected duty hours for this position are 8 hours per day and 5 days per week. However, this position supports 24/7 operations which may require work to be conducted at night and on weekends.
