Job Summary

The Patient Care Operations Supervisor (PCOS) reports to the Director of Capacity Management and is accountable and responsible during a scheduled shift for managing and guiding hospital operations, including staffing, patient flow, and operational coordination across the enterprise. This role collaborates with nursing, department leaders, and Information Technology to ensure safe, efficient, and effective care delivery.

The PCOS must be able to clinically participate in all components of the nursing process while also demonstrating strong operational and workforce management expertise. This includes a deep understanding of staffing grids, to support real-time, data-driven staffing decisions.

This role is responsible for executing and optimizing enterprise-wide staffing requirements, including development and sustainment of a 24/7 staffing model, and aligning resources across departments and facilities within the Forrest Health system. The PCOS utilizes advanced scheduling tools such as Epic and UKG to drive efficiency, improve coverage, and support workforce sustainability.

The PCOS partners with leadership to strategically implement pay incentives, address hard-to-fill shifts, improve retention, and expand onboarding and scheduling capabilities. This role plays a key part in advancing workforce management strategies that align with system goals, throughput, and patient experience. Some travel may be required.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred (Nursing)
  • Minimum 3 years of staffing/workforce management experience
  • Clinical licensure as applicable to role

Performance Qualifications

  • Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide age-appropriate patient care and applies clinical judgment across patient populations
  • Provides leadership and serves as a role model for staff across departments
  • Demonstrates strong collaboration with nursing, operational leaders, and IT across the system
  • Demonstrates proficiency in Epic, UKG, and Microsoft Office
  • Demonstrates expertise in:
    • Budgeting and labor management
    • Staffing grids and productivity standards
    • Man-hours per stat and unit of service modeling
    • Advanced scheduling optimization and system configuration
  • Leads and supports staffing requirements across the enterprise, including:
    • Development and maintenance of a 24/7 staffing model
    • Real-time staffing adjustments based on census, acuity, and throughput needs
    • Alignment of staffing resources across departments and facilities
    • Standardization of staffing practices across the system
  • Partners with leadership to:
    • Develop and implement strategic scheduling models
    • Establish pay incentives and solutions for hard-to-fill shifts
    • Expand onboarding, education, and adoption of scheduling tools
    • Implement and sustain retention strategies
  • Demonstrates ability to effectively communicate policy, procedural, and operational changes to staff
  • Participates in department planning, decision-making, and policy formation
  • Holds staff accountable to organizational mission, values, and performance expectations
  • Demonstrates critical thinking and clinical judgment in responding to patient care needs, including cardiac monitoring, stroke care, and medical-surgical populations
  • Maintains competency in technical nursing skills as required by unit population
  • Adheres to Forrest Health policies, procedures, and standards of care, including safety, infection control, and compliance
  • Promotes a culture of compassion, teamwork, and service excellence
  • Collaborates across the Forrest Health system to support patient flow, throughput, and capacity management

Qualifications:

Education/Skills

Graduate of a recognized non-online RN program. Bachelor’s degree preferred.

Work Experience:

Two to five years general nursing experience with demonstrated leadership required.

Certification/Licensure-DUE UPON HIRE

  • Licensed RN able to practice within the State of MS

Additional Certification/Licensure - Obtained based on required timeframe below

  • Basic Life Support

Within 30 Days of Employment

Required

  • NIH Stroke Scale

Within 90 Days of Employment

Required
