Director - Account Management

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Director - Account Management based in the United States.

This leadership role offers the opportunity to shape client partnership strategies within a fast-growing retail media and advertising environment.
The Director of Account Management will lead a high-performing team while strengthening relationships with major brand and advertiser partners.
You will drive strategic account growth, operational excellence, and exceptional client experiences across a diverse portfolio.
The role combines people leadership, strategic planning, campaign stewardship, and cross-functional collaboration.
You will influence business outcomes by developing scalable processes, improving client engagement, and identifying opportunities for long-term growth.

Accountabilities:

The Director - Account Management will lead the account management function by developing strong client relationships, building high-performing teams, and ensuring operational excellence across advertiser partnerships.

  • Establish annual team priorities, translate organizational objectives into measurable goals, and monitor performance against key business metrics.
  • Act as the escalation point for complex advertiser opportunities, strategic challenges, and high-impact relationship matters.
  • Define and implement a vision for best-in-class account management practices within a retail media environment.
  • Lead, coach, and develop a team of Account Managers through performance management, career development, mentoring, and continuous feedback.
  • Recruit and onboard talented professionals while building a culture centered on accountability, collaboration, curiosity, and client success.
  • Create development plans, succession strategies, and training programs to strengthen team capabilities.
  • Manage team execution, workload prioritization, and delivery standards to ensure high-quality client outcomes.
  • Own relationships with key strategic advertisers, serving as a trusted advisor and executive-level partner.
  • Ensure clients receive strategic guidance throughout the full campaign lifecycle, from planning and activation to optimization and performance reviews.
  • Drive retention, investment growth, and client satisfaction by ensuring measurable value and strong business outcomes.
  • Establish regular business reviews, performance reporting, and strategic planning sessions with major accounts.
  • Collaborate with sales, media planning, analytics, product, legal, finance, and activation teams to align priorities and improve execution.
  • Provide client insights, market feedback, and competitive intelligence to help influence product strategy and business decisions.
  • Develop scalable account management processes, playbooks, and frameworks to support growth and operational consistency.
  • Use performance data and client feedback to continuously improve processes, tools, and team effectiveness.
Requirements:

The ideal candidate is an experienced account management leader with a strong background in media, advertising, commerce, or retail-focused partnerships, combined with proven people leadership and strategic client management expertise.

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • 7-10+ years of experience, including significant experience in account management, client services, or strategic partnerships within media, advertising, retail media, or commerce environments.
  • 5+ years of experience managing and developing high-performing teams.
  • Proven ability to build strong executive-level client relationships, manage escalations, and influence investment decisions.
  • Deep understanding of digital media execution, including campaign setup, optimization, measurement, and performance analysis.
  • Exceptional communication and presentation skills, with the ability to simplify complex topics for diverse stakeholders.
  • Strong cross-functional collaboration skills and the ability to influence without direct authority in a matrixed organization.
  • Analytical mindset with the ability to interpret campaign data, identify trends, and translate insights into strategic recommendations.
  • Experience managing relationships with major brands, advertisers, or agencies is preferred.
  • Familiarity with commercial agreements, insertion orders, and advertising contract processes is preferred.
  • Knowledge of first-party data strategies, audience targeting, and campaign optimization is a plus.
