About This Position

This position is located on an offshore oil platform in Federal waters off the coast of southern California working as an employee of the company, not as a drilling contractor, with all company benefits. Hitch is 14 days on then 14 days off. Employee will stay on the platform for the whole hitch.

Duties include but are not limited to: working in the derrick to safely and efficiently assist the Driller in centering, raising and lowering all casing, drill pipe and tubular through the rig floor rotary table; ensuring the smooth operation and support function of the mud module including preventative maintenance and general repairs of mud equipment as requested by the Supervisor, ensuring chemicals and mud mixture meets the needs of operations, supervising loading of liquid mud products from water vessels, directing and supervising the Floorhand or Roustabout assigned to the sack room, performing general maintenance and upkeep of the equipment

A Derrickman handles the uppermost section of the drilling string as it is brought from or lowered into the wellbore or drill hole. A Derrickman oversees some of the machinery on the rig and is responsible for the conditioning of the fluid and the circulation machinery. The Derrickman spends 25% of his time up in the rigs derrick and plays the lead roll in stacking and guiding pipe as it is tripped in and out or reconnected into the hole. A Derrickman works with the mud systems, monitors weight and mixes weight properly while reporting any changes. The position requires mixing chemicals, monitoring pump manifolds and most importantly, good communication with the Rig Operator.

The Derrickman is responsible for work above the rig floor and for guiding tubing, instruments and tools into the well. He must always be watching and maintaining proper well control, the rate of circulation and performing preventative maintenance. The Derrickman has to be able to identify and avoid potential problems and is responsible for the operations of the pump, moving the rig, setting up and tearing down the rig, as well as assists in training junior crew members

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

Minimum of 1 year previous oil field experience

-- Must be Well Control for Supervisors trained (T-1), Production Safety Systems T-2

-- Must possess a High School diploma and speak, read and write in English.

-- Requires at least verifiable work experience.

-- Must possess basic math skills and be able to do calculations quickly and accurately,

-- Must possess good reasoning skills.

-- Must be committed to a high standard of safety and be willing and able to comply with all safety laws, regulations and company’s safety policies.

--Must be able to pass swing rope test by supporting body weight while hanging from a rope using hands and arms only for a minimum of 10 seconds.
