Under the general direction of the Operations Manager – BMX Track and the BMX Track Operator, the BMX Track Volunteer is responsible for filling USA BMX required track operational positions during sanctioned events. This position ensures that all necessary USA BMX track positions are filled to safely operate sanctioned races, practices, and clinics while supporting the mission, vision, and values of the City of Port St. Lucie. Facilitates the development of public trust and confidence in the City.

  • Keeps the mission, vision, and values of the City of Port St. Lucie at the forefront of decision making and action; builds strategic and collaborative relationships and interacts with others in a way that builds confidence and trust; provides excellent customer service by taking action to accomplish objectives; maintains high levels of work and productivity by generating innovative solutions to work situations.
  • Support BMX-sanctioned events, programs, practices, and clinics.
  • Ensure USA BMX-sanctioned program personnel requirements essential to event operation are met.
  • Assist with and perform USA BMX required track positions, including, but not limited to: Starter, Corner Marshal, Staging, Announcer, and Scoring.
  • Other duties as may be assigned.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma is required. Ability to pass a Level II background check required. Must be eighteen (18) years of age or older.

A comparable amount of training, education or experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, volunteers, and the public.
  • Strong customer service and communication skills.
  • Basic knowledge and understanding of BMX race operations and the ability to be trained.
  • Ability to remain focused in a BMX race environment.
  • Ability to stand in required positions for up to two (2) hours.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in writing and orally.
  • Ability to focus on the positive in every situation.
  • Ability to model respect for individuals, teams, and the organization.
  • Ability to stay centered when challenged.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to follow through with assigned tasks.

While performing the duties of this job, the volunteer is regularly required to sit, talk, hear, and use hands to finger, handle, or feel. The volunteer is frequently required to walk and reach with hands and arms. The volunteer is occasionally required to stand and stoop, kneel, and crouch. The volunteer must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this job, the volunteer is frequently exposed to outside weather conditions that may be adverse and extreme (heat, humidity, cold, rain, etc.). The employee is frequently exposed to noise, dust, fumes, airborne particles, uneven surfaces, heights, and stressful situations.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
