Notice to Candidate:

This is a Part-Time position located primarily at the Jupiter Community Park.

Must be available for weeknights and weekend hours.

PURPOSE OF CLASSIFICATION

The purpose of this classification is to assist with coordination and supervision of various recreation programs for the community.


The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.

Monitors use of parks and recreation facilities by organizations or individuals participating in various recreation programs; explains and enforces rules, policies and procedures to program participants; handles situations involving excessive noise, disruptive behavior, or other problems; performs conflict resolution and coordinates disciplinary issues as needed.

Performs customer service functions; provides information and assistance related to recreational facilities, activities, programs, special events, procedures, forms, fees, or other issues; responds to routine questions, complaints, or requests for service; researches problems and initiates problem resolution.

Conducts program registration using Rec Trac software; receives completed registration forms and facility reservation requests and reviews for completeness; calculates and collects appropriate fees; enters participant registration data into computer; generates program rosters, facility maintenance schedules and league schedules using Rec Trac software.

Receives moneys in payment of program/class/activity registration, facility reservations and athletic league fees; records transactions, issues receipts, and forwards revenues as appropriate.

Assists in monitoring safety, security and cleanliness of parks and recreation facilities; cleans restrooms and takes out trash while on duty; locks/secures parks and recreation buildings; identifies problems, needed repairs, or other situations requiring attention; applies first aid to injuries as needed; reports problems to appropriate personnel or supervisor; completes forms to report accidents, injuries, or other incidents.

Assists with Parks and Recreation Department special events.

Performs general repair/maintenance tasks involving sports paraphernalia or recreational facilities/equipment.

Operates a computer to enter, retrieve, review or modify data; verifies accuracy of entered data and makes corrections; utilizes word processing, database, or other software programs.

Operates a variety of equipment and tools associated with department programs and work activities, which may include a motor vehicle, all-terrain vehicle, backpack blower, drill, hand tools, sports paraphernalia, art supplies, general office equipment, or first aid supplies.

Communicates with supervisor, employees, camp counselors, class instructors, other departments, program registrants/participants, parents, teens, the public, league officials, maintenance vendors and other individuals as needed to coordinate work activities, review status of work, exchange information, or resolve problems.

Maintains an awareness of applicable laws, guidelines, trends and advances in the profession; maintains professional affiliations; attends workshops and training sessions as appropriate.

ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS

Conducts various errands as needed, which may include picking up or dropping off items.

Assists with set up and break down of tables and chairs for various Athletic Complex and Community Center facility rentals and programs.

Performs general/clerical tasks, which may include answering telephone calls, typing documents, making copies, filing documentation, or processing incoming/outgoing mail.

Provides assistance to other employees or departments as needed.

Performs other related duties as required.



  • High School Diploma/GED required

  • Six (6) months of professional or volunteer work experience in a customer service position that demonstrates effective communication skills.

  • Experience in a municipal parks and recreation function preferred or an equivalent combination of education, certification, training and/or experience.

  • A valid Florida driver’s license is required. For application purposes, a valid driver’s license from any state (equivalent to a State of Florida Class E) may be utilized, and the ability to obtain the State of Florida license within thirty (30) days from the date of employment is required.


Data Utilization: Requires the ability to calculate and/or tabulate data. Includes performing subsequent actions in relation to these computational operations.

Human Interaction: Requires the ability to provide guidance, assistance, and/or interpretation to others regarding the application of procedures and standards to specific situations.

Equipment, Machinery, Tools, and Materials Utilization: Requires the ability to operate, maneuver and/or control the actions of equipment, machinery, tools, and/or materials used in performing essential functions.

Verbal Aptitude: Requires the ability to utilize a wide variety of reference and descriptive data and information.

Mathematical Aptitude: Requires the ability to perform addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.

Functional Reasoning: Requires the ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagrammatic form. Involves semi-routine standardized work with some latitude for independent judgment concerning choices of action.

Situational Reasoning: Requires the ability to exercise judgment, decisiveness and creativity in situations involving evaluation of information against measurable or verifiable criteria.

ADA COMPLIANCE

Physical Ability: Tasks require the ability to exert moderate, though not constant physical effort, typically involving some combination of climbing and balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling, and which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of moderate weight (12-20 pounds).

Sensory Requirements: Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate visual cues or signals. Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally.

Environmental Factors: Performance of essential functions may require exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as dirt, dust, humidity, rain, temperature extremes, traffic hazards, bright/dim light, violence, disease, or pathogenic substances.
