Job Description

Precision After Hours. Responsibility You Can Feel.

Second shift is where focus matters most. Fewer distractions. More responsibility. The work still has to be right — and the people who do it know that the results speak for themselves.

As a Machinist II – Second Shift, you’ll set up and operate conventional, special-purpose, and NC machines to produce quality parts that meet print and hold tolerance. You’ll be trusted to run jobs correctly, catch issues early, and keep production moving with confidence.

If you like working with autonomy, pride, and ownership — this shift fits.

What You’ll Do

You’ll be relied on to keep machines, parts, and quality on track.

  • Set up and operate machines using blueprints, drawings, specifications, and sample parts

  • Interpret dimensions, tolerances, and machining sequences accurately

  • Measure, mark, and prepare materials for machining

  • Select and secure fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, and materials

  • Calculate and adjust speeds, feeds, coolant flow, and depth of cut

  • Load, retrieve, and make edits to CNC programs as needed

  • Monitor machines during operation and intervene before issues turn into scrap

  • Adjust offsets and tooling to maintain tolerance and part quality

  • Inspect finished parts to verify print and quality requirements

  • Run and evaluate trial parts to confirm setup and program accuracy

  • Troubleshoot machining and program issues directly at the machine

  • Verify and adjust common G and M codes

  • Operate higher-complexity machines with confidence and care

  • Communicate effectively with engineers, programmers, and teammates across shifts

  • Support continuous improvement efforts, including Lean practices, PMs, 5S, and Kaizen

  • Understand how second-shift performance impacts overall production goals

  • Work safely, ethically, and with respect for workmanship standards

  • Perform other duties as needed to support the team

What You Bring

You’re experienced, dependable, and steady.

  • High School diploma or GED with at least two years of machining experience, or equivalent hands-on background

  • Demonstrated readiness to operate at the Machinist II level

  • Strong knowledge of machining processes, tooling, and CNC operations

  • Ability to work independently and make sound decisions on the floor

  • Solid math skills, including fractions, decimals, and standard units of measure

  • Commitment to safety, quality, and doing the job right — even when no one’s watching

Work Environment

This is hands-on manufacturing work.

  • Regular exposure to moving mechanical parts, vibration, and loud noise

  • Occasional exposure to wet or humid conditions, fumes, airborne particles, chemicals, and non-weather-related heat

  • Risk of electrical shock in certain areas

  • Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential job functions

Physical Requirements
  • Regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds

  • Stand, walk, and move throughout the shift

  • Use hands for tools, materials, and machine controls

  • Vision requirements include close, distance, peripheral, depth perception, and focus adjustment

  • Ability to communicate and hear clearly in a manufacturing environment
