POSITION SUMMARY/OBJECTIVE:
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Plan, organize and control the shift activities of the Production Department to meet or exceed departmental goals and customer requirements including manpower planning and the effective use of equipment. Support the plant safety program, including reviewing and enforcing all safety and health regulations, providing safety training and reporting on and investigating departmental safety concerns or incidents Ensure that good housekeeping practices are maintained in all areas of the plant Ensure compliance with hazardous waste programs and hazard material identification systems Ensure that all employees are trained on, understand, and follow standard operating procedures and control systems. Optimize quality of product through process improvements, sampling and manufacturing techniques, raw material approval and work-off programs. Communicates special instructions to operators when required and enforces all plant rules and regulations. Ensure compliance with Union Contract and handle complaints and counseling as required. Process personnel and payroll paperwork as required and keeps the plant leadership advised of any potential employee or labor relations problems. Handles coaching and disciplinary procedures and provides guidance regarding hiring, firing, or other position changes which are given substantial weight in the discussion with Plant Leadership or HR. Coordinate with maintenance on prioritizing planned and unplanned work on production equipment Document and report on equipment utilization including filter usage, department productivity and overtime performance. Report and discuss any manufacturing or delivery problems with the Production Manager. Perform miscellaneous duties as assigned. Follows DOT and OSHA regulations.
HS Diploma or GED Minimum 3 years of supervisory experience or 5+ years of onsite operations experience Excellent communication skills with ability to clearly and professionally express thoughts and ideas Flexible, change-agent individual with strong analytical, lean manufacturing, and continuous improvement skills. Flexible and willing to work 12 hr shifts, rotating days of the week and cover for other supervisors when needed including holidays. Strong organizational and time management skills. Ability to multi-task and to accomplish routine goals yet react quickly to changing plant priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. Strong influence, collaboration and situational leadership skills are critical to the success of this person. Strong organizational, prioritization, and time management skills to meet multiple deadlines with minimal supervision are critical. Ability to work on other shifts as needed when supervisory coverage is required
PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor's degree 5+ years of supervisory experience in chemical, petroleum, or pharmaceutical manufacturing environment Experience working in or with a unionized workforce Knowledge/experience with SAP and Foxboro operating systems
