General Summary:
Maintenance Technician is a skilled, independent contributor responsible for maintaining the physical integrity, safety, and operational reliability of the hotel. This role requires advanced mechanical aptitude, sound judgment, and the ability to independently diagnose, repair, and maintain building systems in accordance with Marriott Brand Standards, Rupal Hospitality expectations, and local codes.
Requirements:Problem Solving & Decision Making
- Independently diagnose and resolve complex maintenance issues in guestrooms, public areas, and back-of-house spaces.
- Exercise sound judgment in determining repair vs. replacement and escalation needs.
- Make timely, well-reasoned decisions to minimize guest impact and operational downtime.
- Appropriately involve leadership when issues exceed scope, budget, or safety thresholds.
- Execution of preventive maintenance programs for:
- HVAC systems (PTACs, RTUs, exhaust, makeup air)
- Laundry equipment
- Ice machines
- Fire and life safety systems (alarms, extinguishers, smoke detectors)
- Plumbing systems
- Pool system
- Exercise and recreation equipment
- Ensure all PM tasks are completed on schedule and to brand standards.
- Identify recurring failures and recommend corrective or capital improvements.
- Independently manage assigned work orders from intake through completion.
- Accurately document diagnostics, repairs, parts used, and follow-up actions in the work order system.
- Actively support achievement of Rupal Hospitality and Marriott Brand QA standards.
- Conduct daily inspections of guestrooms, public areas, and exterior grounds.
- Identify deficiencies before inspections, not during them.
- Assist in preparation for Brand QA, Fire/Life Safety, and Health Department inspections.
- Coordinate with Housekeeping, Front Office, and Operations to resolve maintenance-related issues efficiently.
- Assist other departments as needed with furniture moves, equipment setup, and special projects.
- Uphold company values and contribute to a respectful, harassment-free workplace.
- Maintain pool chemical levels in compliance with local health codes.
- Ensure safe handling, storage, and use of chemicals and tools.
- Maintain accurate key control and access records.
- Operate snow removal and grounds equipment safely to maintain walkways and parking areas.
- Identify and correct unsafe conditions immediately.
- Effectively manage changing priorities, urgent repairs, and unexpected operational challenges.
- Take ownership of assigned areas and systems.
- Proactively suggest improvements to maintenance processes, equipment reliability, and cost efficiency.
- Demonstrate accountability for outcomes, not just effort.
Qualifications
Required
- 2-3 years maintenance or engineering experience in a hotel or comparable commercial environment.
- Demonstrated proficiency in:
- HVAC systems
- Electrical troubleshooting
- Plumbing repairs
- Boiler operation (where applicable)
- Pool maintenance
- Painting, wall covering, and general building repairs
- Strong diagnostic and problem-solving skills.
- Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving history per company standards.
