Position: Middle School Language Arts Teacher (grades 6-8)

Status:

St. Patrick School in Kansas City MO is seeking a high-quality Middle School Language Arts teacher.

The teacher serves the mission of the Catholic Church by planning, guiding, and evaluating the learning process of the students within the framework of the school's philosophy, organization, and curriculum. The teacher provides the appropriate learning atmosphere and activities designed to maximize student competencies and skills for intellectual, emotional, physical, social, and spiritual growth. The teacher has decision making responsibilities in keeping with school policies and the Diocesan Schools Administrative Manual. The position is classified as Exempt as defined by the FLSA and is hired and evaluated by the principal.

Responsibilities:

The duties of the English Language Arts teacher may include, but are not limited to the following tasks:

• Providing instruction to students in grades 6th to 8th in both writing and literature

• Ability to perform essential functions of the position

• Willingly assisting the instructional process in its many forms

• Supporting school-wide instructional initiatives

• Gathering student data through observation, dialogue, testing tools, etc., and designing strategies to meet student needs

• Supporting student learning through thoughtful planning and preparation and sound classroom management practices

• Attending Professional Development sessions

• Staying informed on the latest trends in English language education assessment

• Assessing student progress

• Maintaining updated gradebooks, tracking the data, drafting report cards

• Effectively communicating with school administrators, teachers, student service personnel, parents regarding student performance and plans for improvement

• Participating in faculty meetings and professional learning communities meetings

• Assisting in orientation and open houses as needed

• Modeling nondiscriminatory practices in all activities

• Bachelor’s degree or higher

• Experience in ELA instruction in an elementary, middle, or secondary school setting

• Flexibility and a team spirit work ethic

• Well-developed interpersonal skills

• A valid teaching certificate.
• Ability to utilize technology for instruction and learning.
• Familiarity with the Catholic understanding of ministry is an asset.
• Practicing Catholic in good standing is preferred but not required.
