FLSA Status: Non-Exempt (Hourly)
Schedule/Work Hours: Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., and some weekends required by the functions of the position
Reports to: Pastor, Business Manager
Summary
The Children's Religious Education Coordinator is an initial point of contact at St. Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church for families seeking religious instruction. Responsibilities include preparing a Catechesis curriculum for K-5th grades, overseeing staff and volunteers in the program, and recruitment of Catechists and Co-Catechists for the purpose of leading all children to a foundational, authentic relationship with Jesus Christ. Organizes and directs the Liturgy of the Word for Children offered at the 10:00 a.m. Sunday Mass. Prepares children and parents through sacramental preparation meetings and workshops. Also serves as Art and Environment Coordinator.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Prepare Registration Forms.
- Recruit Catechists for Children's Ministry classes.
- Create lists/rosters/calendars for the year and assign students to class sessions.
- Maintain emergency forms/parent notification information and supply each Catechist with a current file for each class.
- Use the parish database to produce rosters, lists of volunteers, and Catechists.
- Order resource materials for the curriculum.
- Provide support to Catechists and schedule Catechist workshops.
- Understand catechetical needs with enough knowledge in order to present the program to parish families and to support Catechist participation.
- Work closely with other parish personnel that support various aspects of the children's program.
Reconciliation/First Communion Preparations:
- Enter registration data in parish database.
- Collect and update sacramental registration forms.
- Prepare and schedule parent meetings and sacrament workshops for sacramental formation.
Administrative Duties/Functions:
- Distribute Catechist training materials, such as catechist books, syllabus, class lists, etc.
- Assign classrooms and students per grade level
- Be fully aware of church procedures.
- Order supplies for copier, office machines, and report any maintenance needs.
- Each year, develop a workable program budget and track expenditures.
- Submit/record/track purchase orders.
- Coordinate and submit deposits for all programs.
- Maintain in good order the office resource storage area.
- Maintain accurate files on all volunteers.
- A desire for continuing professional growth.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Maintains confidentiality regarding sensitive matters.
- A practicing Roman Catholic in good standing.
- Possess an active commitment to, and appreciation for Catholic tradition.
- Have appropriate education and experience in Parish life.
- Must demonstrate ability of serving collaboratively with other members of the parish staff. Must be willing to communicate and coordinate with members of the parish community with whom one may interact.
- Strong organizational skills, and the ability to meet parish goals and deadlines; demonstration of professionalism in conduct, demeanor, and work habits.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate to various levels of office staff, ministry leaders, and parishioners.
- Ability to work in a team environment.
- Possess a desire for continuing professional growth.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Power Point, Excel, Outlook) and Adobe Acrobat.
- Meet all Archdiocesan employment requirements.
- Provide proof of valid driver's license and insurance.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous experience with Catholic religious education programs, or other, related service in a Parish environment.
- Associate or Bachelor's Degree
- Advanced-level skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, & Outlook
- Bilingual (English/Spanish)
Physical Demands/Work Environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, and occasionally required to climb stairs, balance, stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must frequently lift and or move up to 24 pounds. The noise level is moderate in the office environment.
