Learning & Development Specialist

About This RoleAt myPlace Health, learning is how we make great care consistent. As our Learning & Development Specialist, youll help teams grow the skills, confidence, and clarity they need to deliver an exceptional experience for the older adults we serve every day, in every interaction.
In this role, youll design and deliver engaging learning experiences across formats, including in-person, hybrid, and on-demand training. Youll partner closely with subject matter experts and leaders to translate real operational needs into training thats practical, memorable, and aligned with our goals. Youll also stay hands-on in the field, spending time at our Day Centers to observe workflows, build trust with teams, and ensure learning lands where it matters most.

  • Bring learning to life: Create engaging eLearning, videos, simulations, and assessments that are interactive, practical, and built for real-world application.
  • Build training people actually want to attend: Develop instructor-led materialsincluding facilitator guides, participant resources, and presentationsthat make sessions clear, energizing, and easy to deliver.
  • Design learning that fits the way teams work: Craft blended learning experiences that thoughtfully combine in-person and online formats for maximum flexibility and impact.
  • Partner with the experts: Collaborate with SMEs to define learning objectives, shape key content, and choose evaluation methods that reflect what success looks like on the job.
  • Turn best practices into better performance: Apply adult learning principles and instructional design models (like ADDIE or SAM) to create training that improves confidence, consistency, and outcomes.
  • Measure what matters: Evaluate training effectiveness using engagement, knowledge retention, and performance improvementthen use insights to make future learning even stronger.
  • Listen, iterate, improve: Gather feedback from learners and stakeholders and continuously refine content to keep it relevant, clear, and high impact.
  • Use tech as your superpower: Manage and track learning initiatives through the LMS, produce reports, and ensure training experiences run smoothly end-to-end.
  • Stay ahead of whats next: Keep current on instructional design tools and trends (Articulate 360, Adobe Captivate, or similar) and bring fresh ideas to your work.
  • Be the calm in the chaos: Troubleshoot learning or technology issues that pop up during training sessions so teams stay supported and learning stays on track.
  • Keep stakeholders connected: Present design concepts and course prototypes with clarity, incorporating feedback while keeping projects moving forward.
  • Jump in where needed: Support additional L&D projects as they come upbecause improving learning is a team effort.
What Does An Ideal Candidate Look Like?
  • A strong foundation in learning design: Bachelors degree in Instructional Design, Educational Technology, or a related field (Masters preferred).
  • Proven experience building training that works: 3+ years in instructional design, curriculum development, or a closely related role.
  • Fluency in modern authoring tools: Confidence creating eLearning with Articulate 360, Adobe Captivate, or similar platforms.
  • LMS know-how you can put to work fast: Experience managing learning in an LMS, plus familiarity with SCORM and/or xAPIand the ability to troubleshoot when things get technical.
  • A performance-first mindset: Skilled at spotting performance gaps, asking the right questions, and recommending learning solutions that actually move the needle.
  • An eye for clean, engaging content: Bonus points if youre comfortable with graphic design or video tools like Adobe Creative Suite (or similar).
  • Deep understanding of how adults learn: Strong command of adult learning principles, instructional design models (ADDIE, SAM), and eLearning best practices.
  • Project management that keeps everything moving: Able to balance multiple priorities, manage timelines, and deliver high-quality work on deadline.
  • Communication that builds trust: Clear, confident written and verbal skillsable to collaborate with SMEs, present ideas to stakeholders, and bring people along with you.
The Work Environment
  • A flexible, hybrid rhythm: This role blends work-from-home focused build time with in-office collaborationgiving you space to design, develop, and refine high-quality learning experiences.
  • Presenting is part of the fun: Youll regularly lead live trainings, hybrid sessions, and presentationsfacilitating learning thats interactive, clear, and energizing for teams.
  • Built on collaboration: Expect plenty of 1:1s with SMEs and key contributors, working sessions to shape content, and stakeholder reviews to keep learning aligned with real operational needs.
  • Creative production time: Youll spend dedicated time developing eLearning modules, job aids, and facilitator materialsoften working independently with the tools and tech you need to do your best work.
  • Connection-driven culture: Youll partner closely with the L&D team, HR, and cross-functional leaders through meetings (virtual and in-person) to identify needs, solve problems, and keep projects moving.
  • Standard office demands: This role involves extended time at a computer, frequent video calls, and occasional setup for training sessions (whether in a conference room or a virtual room).
The Physical Requirements
  • Stationary work with variety: Ability to sit for extended periods while working at a computer, with regular movement between meetings, workspaces, and training areas.
  • Presentation-ready presence: Ability to stand for portions of the day to facilitate trainings, lead discussions, and deliver presentations (in-person and virtually).
  • Comfort with screen time: Frequent use of a laptop/desktop, video conferencing platforms, and learning tools; sustained visual focus and hand coordination for typing, clicking, and content creation.
  • Clear communication: Ability to speak, hear, and communicate effectively with individuals and groups in person, by phone, and via video meetings.
  • Light physical activity: Ability to occasionally lift, carry, and move training materials or supplies (typically up to 25 lbs.) and set up items like handouts, flip charts, or a laptop/projector for sessions.
  • Mobility around the workplace: Ability to navigate typical office environments, including walking to meeting rooms and collaborating in shared spaces.

  • A schedule that supports balance: This role is MondayFriday during normal business hours.
  • Where youll do your best work: Youll spend ~75% of your time at the Day Center supporting in-person and hybrid trainingstaying close to operations and the teams youre enabling.
  • Your leader and support system: This position reports to the Senior Director of Learning & Development, with close partnership across L&D, HR, and departmental stakeholders.
