Position Summary

The Certified Nurse Aide provides compassionate, quality nursing care to residents. This role coordinates work within the clinical department and across other departments, communicates pertinent information to the immediate supervisor, and supports departmental operations by assisting the supervisor as needed.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities
  • Deliver nursing care that promotes residents rights, dignity, individuality, and freedom of choice.

  • Provide individualized care that supports residents physical, mental, and psychosocial well-being.

  • Understand and follow residents individualized care plans; contribute observations and relevant information to the charge nurse and care planning team.

  • Assist residents with personal care needs such as grooming, bathing, oral hygiene, feeding, incontinent care, toileting, colostomy care, prosthetic devices, transferring, ambulation, range of motion exercises, and communication as outlined in their care plans.

  • Maintain residents comfort, privacy, and dignity while delivering care; interact warmly to foster a caring environment.

  • Keep resident rooms tidy and change bed linens as necessary.

  • Fully understand residents rights, including freedom from restraints and abuse, and promptly report any suspected violations to the charge nurse or administrator.

  • Help maintain a safe, clean, and orderly environment; report environmental issues such as lighting or equipment malfunctions to the Environmental Plant Manager.

  • Protect residents personal belongings including eyeglasses, dentures, hearing aids, clothing, jewelry, and memorabilia; report and assist in locating missing items per policy.

  • Observe residents for changes in condition or behavior and promptly report these to the Charge Nurse.

  • Provide skin care to prevent pressure ulcers and skin damage by regularly changing incontinent residents, repositioning immobile residents, and applying moisturizers as needed.

  • Respond promptly and courteously to residents call lights.

  • Perform delegated tasks such as checking vital signs, weighing residents, applying creams and ointments, and collecting specimens.

  • Assist in orienting new residents and their families to the facility and unit during admissions and transfers.

  • Safely lift, move, and transport residents using proper body mechanics and assistive devices including wheelchairs, slide boards, walkers, and canes.

  • Communicate and interact effectively and respectfully with residents, families, visitors, peers, and supervisors.

  • Escort residents to appointments, activities, and events such as beauty shop visits, church services, and social functions.

  • Accurately document care and other relevant information in the medical record system (PCC) following departmental policies.

  • Adhere to safety and infection control procedures including thorough handwashing, use of disposable gloves, and proper disposal of contaminated materials.

  • Attend staff meetings, in-service training, and other educational sessions as required.

  • Answer and direct incoming calls when necessary.

  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
