About This Position
Job Summary
The Controller for the Foundations works closely with senior leadership to develop and implement financial plans that support the business strategies of the University Medical Center of El Paso Foundation and El Paso Children’s Hospital Foundation (“the Foundations”). Directs the development of detailed profit-&-loss analysis, financial analysis, and overall business analysis for the Foundations. Responsible for managing, coordinating, and administering internal financial functions, external reporting and administrative operations. Responsibilities include directing the accounting function, accounts payable, payroll, budgeting, business plan assessment, grants accounting and reporting, foundation accounting and reporting.
Minimum Job Requirements
Work Experience:
Five years of progressively responsible experience in accounting, finance, or fiscal management are required. Prior experience in overseeing audits, budgeting, and financial reporting is required. Five years of management experience required.
Experience in nonprofit or governmental accounting, including fund accounting and grant compliance, is strongly preferred.
License/Registration/Certification:
Certified Public Accountant (CPA) preferred.
Other relevant accounting or financial certifications preferred.
Education and Training:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field required. Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration preferred.
Skills:
- Thorough knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles. Knowledge of GAAP, FASB, GASB, and relevant federal and state regulations.
- Extensive knowledge of all standard accounting operating procedures and principles.
- Strong understanding of nonprofit accounting, including grants, restricted funds, and donor compliance.
- Well-developed financial analysis capabilities. Ability to analyze complex financial data and provide strategic financial insight.
- Strong leadership skills, including staff development, performance management, and team building.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, special projects, and cross‑departmental initiatives.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Excellent communication skills, including the ability to present financial information to financial and non‑financial audiences.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to lead process improvements.
- Commitment to transparency, governance, and continuous quality improvement.
- Thorough knowledge of manual and automated accounting systems.
- Experience in the development and publication of advertising media.
