About This Position

Project Strategist in the healthcare industry is responsible for planning, coordinating, and scheduling the installation, maintenance, and upgrade of complex mechanical systems (HVAC, medical gas, plumbing) within hospitals, clinics, and medical office buildings. This role focuses on ensuring that mechanical infrastructure supports critical patient care environments while adhering to strict regulatory, safety, and infection control standards.

Core Duties and Responsibilities

  • Project Planning and Scheduling: Developing detailed master plans and milestones for HVAC replacements, chiller upgrades, and medical gas system installations.
  • Healthcare Compliance & Safety: Ensuring all work complies with NFPA 99 (medical gas), ASHRAE 170 (ventilation), FGI Guidelines, and ICRA (Infection Control Risk Assessment) protocols.
  • Operational Coordination: Planning shutdowns, system tie-ins, and construction activities to minimize disruption to active, 24/7 patient care areas.
  • System Design & Review: Reviewing mechanical (MEP) drawings and specifications for accuracy and coordinating with architects, engineers, and general contractors.
  • Resource and Budget Management: Estimating costs, managing procurement for long-lead mechanical equipment, and tracking job expenses to ensure projects remain within budget.
  • Field Support & Troubleshooting: Resolving mechanical issues on-site, conducting inspections, and participating in commissioning and final punch-list completion.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Experience: 3–5+ years of experience in mechanical project management or planning, with specific experience in healthcare facility renovations or construction.
  • Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of HVAC, hydronic piping, medical gas systems, and building automation controls (BAS).
  • Communication: Excellent interpersonal skills to interact with medical staff, clinicians, hospital administrators, and subcontractors.
  • Education: Background in Mechanical systems related to the healthcare industry.
