About This Position
This is a Federal TRIO Student Support Services (SSS) grant funded position. The grant provides funding for two Student Success Coordinators to support the expansion and implementation of GenJacks programming associated with the TRIO grant under the purview of the Cole Student Success Center. These positions will play a key role in coordinating services, programming, and student support as the GenJacks cohort scales to meet TRIO SSS program requirements.
Grant Funded Position – continued employment contingent on funding
This is a professional position responsible for leading the design and implementation of initiatives and activities that advance student success. Responsible for coordinating proactive programs and services that empower students to succeed academically and personally to improve undergraduate retention and graduation rates. Works under limited supervision, with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Reports to the director.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree is required. Master’s degree is preferred.
Three years of related experience is required. Experience in direct service to students in an academic or student affairs capacity is required.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Plans and coordinates programs designed to enhance student success, retention, and achievement.
- Supports assigned students’ academic transition and success.
- Provides information regarding institutional policies and procedures and serves as a primary support resource for assigned students.
- Serves as primary advisor and mentor for assigned students. Assists students in determining course schedule each semester.
- Maintains contact with students to monitor their academic progress and assist them toward degree completion.
- Collaborates with various departments to plan and implement programming/activities/events.
- Gathers data for the purpose of monitoring student success and preparing reports.
- Assists in developing program goals and assessing effectiveness.
NON-ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Serves as program liaison to external constituents and/or donors.
- Participates in recruitment and retention activities as appropriate.
- Serves on university committees as needed.
- May supervise subordinate staff or students.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
The individual must possess the following knowledge, skills, and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Knowledge of, or ability to learn, university policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of developmental academic advising, retention management, and/or instructional strategies effective for college-age students.
- Skill in using computer applications including spreadsheet, database, and word processing software.
- Ability to learn office and university-specific software.
- Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form.
- Ability to plan, implement and evaluate programs.
- Ability to establish and maintain a good rapport with university faculty and staff, students, and the general public.
- Ability to work effectively and patiently with students.
- Ability to identify problems, evaluate alternatives, and implement solutions.
- Ability to provide support for student development with demonstrable concern for students.
- Ability to engage students and to create and enhance their commitment to the institution and each other.
- Ability to work evenings, nights, and weekends as necessary.
