Position Summary

Hays Electrical Services is seeking a Project Accounting Controller to lead the project accounting and financial controls function across a portfolio of high-value electrical projects.

This is a Controller-level leadership role responsible for managing a team of project accounting and project controls professionals while owning financial performance across multiple projects from kickoff through closeout. The Project Accounting Controller partners closely with Project Managers, field leadership, and executive stakeholders to ensure forecast accuracy, cost control, and margin performance.

Key ResponsibilitiesTeam Leadership & Oversight
  • Lead, develop, and manage a team of approximately 10 project accounting and project controls professionals
  • Establish and standardize processes for WIP reporting, forecasting, and job cost management
  • Review and approve financial deliverables, including budgets, forecasts, and reporting packages
  • Drive accountability, consistency, and performance across the team
  • Partner with leadership on organizational structure, staffing, and professional development initiatives
Project Financial Control & Accounting
  • Own project financial performance from project kickoff through closeout
  • Oversee job cost accounting, budget management, and cost tracking across multiple projects
  • Lead monthly Work-in-Progress (WIP) reporting and revenue recognition processes
  • Manage forecasting, variance analysis, and margin tracking
  • Ensure accuracy, consistency, and integrity of financial reporting across all active projects
Operational & Strategic Impact
  • Partner with Project Managers to identify financial risks and implement mitigation strategies
  • Oversee change order processes, including pricing, tracking, and financial impact analysis
  • Monitor labor productivity and cost performance trends
  • Oversee billing processes, cash flow forecasting, and collections strategies
  • Develop and enhance financial dashboards and reporting tools for leadership visibility
  • Ensure compliance with contract requirements, financial controls, and internal policies
QualificationsRequired
  • 7–10+ years of experience in construction accounting, project accounting, or project controls
  • Demonstrated experience leading or managing teams
  • Strong expertise in WIP reporting, job costing, forecasting, and revenue recognition
  • Experience supporting commercial, multifamily, or large-scale construction projects
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including financial modeling and analysis
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate across field teams, project managers, and executive leadership
Preferred
  • Experience working with an electrical contractor or specialty subcontractor
  • Familiarity with ERP systems such as Viewpoint Vista, Procore, or similar platforms
  • Proven track record of building or improving processes, reporting structures, or teams
  • Exposure to mission-critical or data center projects
